4.1 distortion when using all speakers

Recommended Posts

hey all,

when i have the speakers hooked up i'm getting massive distortion, crackles pops etc. when i only have two speakers hooked (either unplugging two speakers from the sub or unplugging one output from my card) up they work fine: clear as a bell. i've swapped the speakers and cables around but i only get distortion when all four are hooked up. also the also i do not get distortion through the headphone jack.

please, please, please, anything but RMA

I had the same problem as you on two different Promedia 4.1 systems. The first system lasted two weeks before developing a distortion problem, RMAed it, second lasted 3 months. I still have the second unit cause if I add a fan cooling the back of the subwoofer everything goes back to normal, no more distortion ! Try it, even if the back plate gets only warm, it may help.

I have that occcasionally happen with my setup. Usually unplugging the main cord leading from my control unit to my subwoofer and waiting a minute will fix the problem. Other times I've found that the problem is caused by having a "positive" speaker wire in a "negative" clip in my subwoofer. Normally this happens because I have new wires that arent colored red or black like the stock wire.

I also think that the subwoofer should have come with a grounding plug.
