The contacts for the knobs on your control box are probably crusty. Usually the volume knob. Try cleaning and lubricating them. Then twist em lots of times (be gentle).

I have that occcasionally happen with my setup. Usually unplugging the main cord leading from my control unit to my subwoofer and waiting a minute will fix the problem. Other times I've found that the problem is caused by having a "positive" speaker wire in a "negative" clip in my subwoofer. Normally this happens because I have new wires that arent colored red or black like the stock wire. I also think that the subwoofer should have come with a grounding plug.

Go to radioshack. Buy a roll of speaker wire for like 10 bucks. Then also buy the adapters that will allow you to connect the wire to the speaker. Its a stereo headphone jack. Then all ya have to do is wind the wire ends tightly to the connection points inside the adapters you just bought. Make sure the 2 wires dont touch at all. It works great, Ive had mine running like that for about 2 years now. Plus you'll get extra speaker wire for whenever you need it. Estimated time: Your first speaker might take 10 minutes as you figure it out. The rest probably about 3 minutes.

2 years ago I lived In a room with 4 concrete walls, hard floor and a 10 foot hight concrete ceiling. My sub sounded ridiculously and absurdly good. Now I'm in a drywalled and carpeted place that makes my sub seem ****ty.

well i called klispch to complain and they were no help... all they told me to do was send in my subwoofer. my problem was that i was getting a sort of buzzing noise from the sub, in fact almost exactly the sound of a ripped speaker. It isnt a ripped speaker, so after experimenting with and unplugging the wire that leads to the sub from the control pod, and plugging it back into the sub, the noise goes away. After a while the buzzing will come back, but unplugging and plugging that cable back in a few times will again eventually solve the problem. It's trial and error..sometimes i'll plug it back in and get half the normal bass, other times i'll get terrible bass, and yet other times i'll get perfectly clear bass (which is when i leave it alone...) Does that mean that the problem IS in the sub? Well the sub sounds just fine after I replug that wire a few times. That means its either the control pod or the wire itslef. has anyone had any similar problems? any advice?? I dont want to have to keep messing with that wire..i want a fix. klipsch, so far I have gone through 3 sets of these things... so if you know something I don't that'll pinpoint or fix this particular problem, please tell me. (I'm starting to think that a lot of the problems people had/have are originating in the control pod) ------------------

I'm quite sure that Klipsch is aware of its problems with defective units. They are probably losing a lot of money from those units too. The fact is, if it costs Klipsch more money to implement a recall than it would to just let people return their units themselves, Klipsch will continue to deny that their units are defective. Since most of the problems seem to focus on the same areas, primarily the sub, I would say that perhaps the units are being built as designed, yet a design flaw is causing the troubles. ------------------

Okay I'm sick of problems with my KLIPSCH speakers. I just returned a new set of 4.1's to Best Buy to replace my old set. In my old set the subwoofer began to get very hot to the touch..so hot that the exterior actually BURNED my hand when I tried to pick up the sub to examine. That alone is ridiculous, yet shortly afterward the entire sub went, with terrible rattling bass, just a terrible noise. I went to return the set and I let the sub sit for almost an hour unplugged before I put it in the box. It seemed as if it could light the box on fire! I got my new set to replace the old set and yes, they sounded great..until today, 2 weeks later, the sub again sounds terrible! TERRIBLE! I have stopped using my $300 speakers all together because they sound horrid. KLIPSCH, WHATS GOING ON!?! Listen, ALL that I want from you is a subwoofer that is not defective! I want your product, but its costing me time and money to continue to own it! I want to send this subwoofer back to you and in turn receive a subwoofer that: 1)wont burn me or my house 2)Sounds clean for a reasonably long period of time. For the cost these speakers should WORK! Please tell me what you are willing to do to help me out. This should not cost me any more money, but I am willing to take time to go to the post office, electronic store, whatever. Save a customer today, before they all run away! my subwoofer isn't working like it normally would. it's getting EXTREMELY hot in the back! hot enough that it burns to the touch. this is ridiculous, this is the second set that i've owned. i've had them a few months, but threw away tee receipt. what should i do?!?! ------------------

hrmmm...well it must be HUGE! today i fell in love with a 17" samsung LCD. i must have it! ------------------

go to comp usa, buy some 4.1's, and then the next day return the ones that didn't work and describe the problem. All of the speakers end up back at klipsch anyhow. ------------------

Well. I have just decided that since I am going to return my pro media 2.1's, and that since I will have to buy a new sound card anyhow, I might as well buy the 4.1's. They're only going to cost about $80 more than my 2.1's, and I was SO impressed with the 2.1's that I feel and in the long run I think I will be happier with full surround. so a couple of questions, yet gain :]. What sound card would provide me with 4 channel surround for a cheap price? Would the "SB Live! Value" do the trick? also, do any of you know what the speaker cord length on the 4.1 rear speakers would be? If i wanted to make them reach a further distance would that be possible? I would also like to thank all of you for your help so far! I must say I am definetely impressed with your knowledge on the issues! -Will- ------------------

I dont really know what a good sound card is, and what's not. I went to the SB website and started thinking I was gonna have to pay 200 bucks to get good sound. I saw the SB Live!Value, but since it had the word 'value', I automatically assumed it sucked. Does anyone even know if HP's can get sound cards upgraded? I guess I will check my tower rght now to see if there is a slot. ------------------

actually, it's the soundcard that came with my HP pavilion xt846 it says this : Compatibility 3-D Stereo, PCI, 16-bit Sound Controller AMC97 codec (on motherboard) Location Crystal Sound Chip Noise Cancellation Yes Line Out Yes 3-D Spatializer Yes Wavetable Yes Tone Control No --------- thats all i could find. come to think of it, i tried these on another PC that had a S Live card in it, and there was no hissing...at least not that i noticed. What would be a good, economical, entry level sound card that would eliminate this hiss? about how much would it cost me? ------------------

well, i figured out that if i turn the speaker volume nearly all of the way down, and then use only the winamp volume to control my music volume, then the hiss goes away. I take it that means that the problem IS in fact my speakers, though. The only thing is that with that method, my CD's can barely be heard. I certainly didn't buy 2.1's so that I could finally not hear my cd's. Luckily I bought these at CompUSA, which is prob the smartest thing i have done in my life. I have a feelling that the wires from the speakers are picking up static from all of the interference/power cords that surround my computer. Would replacing the speaker cable w/ monster cable like I have heard some people doing, eliminate that problem? Is it hard to do? thx forr all of your help! -Will-

I just got my 2.1 about 2 days ago and i cannot get rid of this louds, constant, background hissing. also, i just got a microsoft intellieye optical mouse and every time i move it it causes a sort of popping in the speakers. without the mouse , though, i still have this constant, loud hiss...it even can be heard over my music! HELP! -Will-

get some laundry detergent and hot water. fill a bathroom sink and put just a small amount of detergrnt in it. scrub the grill/cloth lightly with a toothbrush. pat them dry with a paper towel (dont rub...it'll get paper on the cloth). I cleaned my car's grilles that way and it worked wonders, while also smelling good. Also, tell them that if they puke on your stuff again that you will also have to clean up blood

i recently bought a microsoft intellieye optical mouse. ever since i got it my pro media 2.1's have had static at ay volume. I know it is the mouse because the static changes as i move the mouse around, and turns into a different static when the mouse stops. does anyone have any advicse on how to fix it? thx, -Will-
