jelliott100
Kevin, It's certainly possible that the volume levels at which I listen (sometimes)are high enough to strain the amp in the Denon. I definitely turn it up loud on occassion but I've never considered it to be overly so. I'm not entirely sure I would recognize the sound of the amps clipping if I heard it. I'm not certain if the improvement I hear with the new amp is due to it's higher output or if it's simply due to the fact that the Acurus is a higher quality piece than the denon's internal amp(s). Most likely it's a combination of both. ------------------ --Elliott-- Heresy Mains (Birch) Heresy Surrounds (Walnut) RC-3 Center (Because a C7 won't fit!) Steve Phillips
External amps are a great improvement to a reciever. It takes the load off of the poor overworked transformer, frees it up to do a better job with the pre-amp section. When my Denon AVR-2800 was being used with Fortes it could play very loud, but it didn't sound great loud, just loud.About +12 or so on the 2800. Now have the 3801 with older Denon POA-2800 amps and the difference is great.Detail, soundstage, but then the mains aren't the same anymore. ------------------ Main HT:'77 Klipschorns w/ALKs, '75 Heresy center, modified with,K-Horn sqauwker & AA network.
