boa12
gw, on your ? on analog stereo sources, yes the ideal would be that when u play those u would set your fronts as large & the sub crossover set in prob somewhere around 55-60hz. but then when u play a 5.1 source you'd have to get up & move the sub's crossover all the way up. ease of use wise, that gets to be a pain in the ______. this is the dilemma that should be solved if the receiver or dvdp makers just put in an adjustable cut-off to sub point for low bass. then the unit would automatically handle what the sub's crossover does. ray, that phase deal must be due to the room characteristics. & yea i'm always interested in a tweek. could u post it here, or email or PM it to me? thanks. ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! htxpert
Hi Ok here is the tweek: I have installed many systems based on the Legend line after the first few installs I noticed a slight buzzing sound at high SPL levels.I traced this to the ports that are pressed into the rear of the enclosure. These ports pop out very easy.If you notice the buzzing problem a small tube of silicone will correct the problem. But this got me thinking about the roll off that my KLF-30's have below 45hz or so and realized that the port length of the 30's were short, to gain high efficency and promote a slight hump at or around 50-70Hz.I pulled out one of the ports and went to Home Depot. In the plumbing section I found a Black ABS coupler that fit perfectly over the end of the port,I had my choice of 4" or 6" length, I bought both pairs. The way you have to install them is put the Klipsch port back in the enclosure and then remove the bottom woofer, then slip the ABS coupler over the part of the port that is protuding from the back of the enclosure untill snug and replace the woofer. This effectivly lowered the FS of the enclosure with a small price in effiency, but I like the result The bottom end is much fuller, less shallow and tighter than the stock configuration,I have confirmed this with my Delta subwoofer sweeps test disk. The tweek is easy to remove if you dont like it,but at the very least you should use a small amount of silicone around the stock ports to keep them from buzzing Tweek on and sorry about the spelling errors Dohhhh! boa12
thanks ray. guess i'd have to get the tools back out. & after putting those buck mags on, i'd be afraid of lifting that woofer again. could get a hernia.
htxpert
Hi Again,<-- slow weekend here Boa Did you build saddles for the magnets to rest in when you did the install? If not did you have a problem with the front baffle and the four screws supporting the weight? I have to install these for a client and thought I would build a saddle brace for the magnet stucture to rest on inside the enclosure like this ---U--- out of a piece of 3/4" plywood a U notch will be cut out where the Magnet rests and weather stripping will be applyed on the cut out to prevent any unwanted resonance I have done this with subs I built in the past that have heavy magnet structures.I had often thought that the KLF30 didnt have much front baffle to support the weight of the 2x12" woofers to begin with
boa12
ray, no that's the 1st i've heard of saddles. seem to be working fine - no screw support or bad resonance problems. my main concern was that 1 of those mags would just drop off some day. used a lot of super strong instant epoxy though. i'll just keep my fingers & toes crossed ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! GWklipsch
Boa12, What I ended up doing was ( for H/T DVD movies) setting my front to small, rear to large,( Set to small they were over powered by my fronts not sure why)and center set to small,Sub low pass set to 120mz.Also I need to set the sub db about 6 to 10 db louder then the other speakers. I find I need to play the system much louder then I use too, to get the same impact but it sounds good. For music I roll back the sub low pass to 60hz and turn up the sub a little. Thanks for all your help and know how! Also thanks to all who responded to this post..George
