acex2
So, I just recived my new, to me, Academy center. As soon as I picked it up, I heard a loud clucking noise from inside. Once I removed the woffers, I noticed the shielding magnets fell off the back of both woffers. Whats the best type of glue to use, I was thinking either hot glue, or some sort of epoxy. What do ya think? Other than this, the speaker looks like new... Thanks I end up using hot glue, the buckling magnets were inclosed in a metal can, see picture. Easy fix. michael hurd
A quick setting 5 minute epoxy would work well, but a better choice would be metal bonding adhesive ( fusor 110 ) from lord corporation. The fusor requires renting or borrowing a applicator gun, and has replacable nozzles. This is a professional quality adhesive available to bodyshops for panel bonding, and has a shear strength of 3000 lbs/in2. Make sure that you can clamp the magnets in the proper position, before you start.
rckpls
I've had two center channel speakers delivered by UPS. An Academy with something heavy bouncing around inside and a KLF-C7 that had a large copper coil broken off the xover. The Academy sounded fine, so the sheild probably fell off the magnet on that one, too. I didn't even check....just returned it and got my whole $250 back.
