misterbork
Hello, I have just replaced the buzzing, old k-55-m drivers in my lascalas with Atlas PD-5VH alnico drivers. In spite of the lack of breaking in time, the drivers sound much smoother in general. Their slightly lower efficincy improves the bass extention, but causes a bit of high frequency glare. My lascalas have the AL-3 crossovers, which I understand are not too well thought of. I am interested in building a Type A crossover, or a variant, which takes into account the slightly lower cutoff of the Atlas driver. It's rated frequency response is 110Hz - 4100Hz. it is 16ohm. To what value would I lower the HF cap to get the desired response? Also, is there any advantage to using an L-pad instead of the autoformer? Thanks alot for any help. Erik Mandaville
A variable L-pad, matched to the impedance of the driver, would be a great way of attenuating the tweeter to match that of the midrange.
