Morton
Forum, I am playing a pair Kg4's through this tube amp and I have them hooked up to the 4 ohm screws. I read that some Kg's say 6 ohm. What will the difference in sound be if I hook them up to the 8 ohm screws. My Kg'4s say 4 ohm on the back. Thanks Bob

Morton
So it seems I'm safer at 4 ohms than 8 ohms. hmmm I wish I understood this better. Nominal means theoretical...I think. Oh well, they sound pretty impressive hooked up to this old tube amp and 4 ohms. I'll get rid of these old channel master tubes and try teslas as I was told they have a nice midrange. MrMcGoo
Nominal impedance is a weighted average that is rounded. The 4 ohm figure is closer to a minimum. Bass response would be a good way to judge which tap to use. The 4 ohm tap is likely to work best for bass. Bill PS: Many speakers listed as 8 ohm speakers are 8 ohm compatible, not actually 8 ohm impedance. This is due to the very high sensitivity of Klipsch speakers. They are relatively easy to drive, but do benefit from correct amplification. B
scotbuck
Greetings, My kg4's are 6 ohm and I prefer the sound from the 4 ohm tap on the amp. The bass is a little fuller and the highs are a little sweeter. Take care, Scott
Seadog
The early KG4s were rated 4 ohms. I've owned both the 4 and the 6 ohm KG4s and did not notice much of a difference. On an amp with 4 Ohm taps I would use the 4 ohm taps with the KG4s.
Morton
I appreciate the input on the 4 ohm vs 8 ohm. I do have them on the 4 ohm taps. I am running the kg4's on a bargain basement tube amp and I am amazed what I get in sound rsponse. This amp can't be more than 20 watts per channel. Says something about power supply. The bass is almost deafing in the 11'X11' concrete room I have it set up in. With rugs, sofas and other deflections. Fun is.
