nicholtl
Yes, and an amazing narrative structure as well. Fans of Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Psycho, Finding Forrester, etc.) will love this piece. He seems to have a true understanding of adolescent boys. No pun intended, him being gay and all... For those not into indie flicks, avoid this movie at all costs. It's probably one of the slowest, most arduous-to-watch films you'll ever come across. But that's also the beauty of it. Van Sant forces us to watch and discover the beauty of everyday events and tasks that we'd otherwise dismiss as tedious. It really forces us to "stop and smell the flowers," so to speak, or to enjoy the quiet before the storm. And the storm comes in the form of a chilling Columbine-esque tragedy. Moderators Amy Posted July 7, 2005 Author Moderators Share Posted July 7, 2005 That's what was so chilling for me. First of all, I had absolutely no clue what the movie was about. I love that. And the slow, deliberate pacing of it... and the nonsense dialogue from the high school students, well, made me feel like I was really back at high school. I think that was the desired effect, and it worked for me.
