Bill H.
I am looking for a center channel speaker to go with my RF 35's. I know that the RC 35 will work, but could i subsitute a RC3? Seems the RC3 have more watts per channel and a better Freq response also. I tried to run a search, but came up empty..............
nicholtl
The RC-3 would work, but the RC-35 is better matched in timbre and harmonal characteristic. I'm not sure what you mean but more "watts per channel" though? I think you meant a higher RMS rating?
colterphoto1
Bill, As I PM'd you, the 35 has front ports, and it a tapered array like the RC7. RC3II will not be. Guys seem to be selling the RC3's left and right and getting the 7's. Remember there was no RC5 built and going a series down for the critical center is not a good idea. In the scheme of things here's how they compare 35 = 5 series 25 = 3 series So basically, using a RC3 with RF35's is going a step down in your center. Maybe not good unless budget is really tight. colterphoto1
Bill, just checked, the RC35 has the TAPERED ARRAY like the RC7, this means that it has a low crossover. Both woofers work together in the lower ranges, but at 300 HZ, one tapers off, leaving a single woofer to go from 300 to about 2K where the tweeter kicks in. This gives a more detailed image to the critical dialog channel (for movies), since you don't have two woofers a distance apart producing the vocal range. Remember the lesson learned with the CF3 you saw today? Two woofers separated by a horn do not work well together, there might be a slight timing difference blurring the image and there is a IM distortion to that setup. This is why the tapered array was developed. It costs more because it is a more complicated crossover. But if it comes down to economics, the RC3II would be okay, remember that it has ports on the back. M
Bill H.
Well looks like I'd forgotten about the 35's=5 ......... so now I will hunt for either the RC 35 or maybe get lucky and find a resonably priced RC 7!.........Thanks
