Planning a music dedicated room.Need advice

I am planning on building an extension to my house. The downstairs room will be dedicated to music listening only. Two channel only as I am not into home theatre. Anyway, what are the ideal dimensions for Klipschorns to be situated in. Only going to get one shot at this and I want to get it right. I have one external measurement of 20ft to toe in with the side of the house. I can extend outwards as far as I need to.What considerations do I need to give to internal room materials for the best accoustic environment. Grateful for any advice or comments. Thanks in advance. There are several on the board that may help.. Look for Artto's posts as well.

Basically you want to be in the sweet spot.. (speakers facing like a triangle to you.)

Allow for full walls to extend the bass cabinet, un obstructed..

Depending on your room, it may require some treatments as well.

Draw us your design n post it here.

Your other equipment may have a HUGE effect as well.

You'll be looking at right around 30 feet then (which brings you about

5 feet away from the back wall). How tall will your ceiling be?

28x20x8 would be a good start. If you had a 10 foot cieling then I

would try to avoid going the full 20' (I've got my magic room

dimensions here somewhere...)

Just curious, what kind of options do you have for building

non-parallel walls? There are a lot of benefits there if it's within

your means. I've got a

few ideas that would even help the imaging of the khorns [;)] What is

your time-frame for building this? I know Dragonfyr plans on measuring

all the heritage series with which some modelling in EASE could be

done...which would allow for some major tweaking of the room before

it's actually built.

Oh, and is this strictly 2 channel without a subwoofer?

Thanks for your comments. Ceiling height can be whatever I choose really. The adjacent room is 7ft9ins. I live in a Welsh farmhouse so the ceilings are lower than in modern houses. I should explain that the 20ft wall will have to have a door in it to gain access from the current living room. Haven't thought of non parallel walls. Not sure if my wife would like the idea or if the planning department would allow an unconventional shape! There is no rush, sometime during the next two years. Which is why I would like to get carefully informed and think things through properly. I would like to stay 2 channel and have never needed or wanted a subwoofer. But I am flexible and open to any ideas.

Just to give you an idea...(btw, it is to scale: 1" = 10 feet).

One thing not shown in the picture is the fact that the rear wall

angles upward too, just a few degrees... (so the room is like 1 foot

shorter on the floor than it is on the cieling). You'll need to click

on the picture and open it to get by the ugliness the forum induces.

The outer box shows the outside rectangular dimensions (20 feet tall by 28 feet wide).

Anyways, the most important thing here is the 60 degree angle between

the mains - which is the industry standard (not the 90 degrees that the

khorn would require in a rectangular room). Note the equilateral

triangle that the listening positions makes with the speakers (and you

are also 2/3 of the way into the room - behind the middle point which

is bad for bass but with plenty of room behind your head so that the

sounds are still coming from in front). You can also see where

the

corners for the khorn would go...each edge is 6 feet which is way more

than would be needed to finish the flare on the horn. The other angles

in the room are such that no "early" reflections (one bounce) end up

back at the listening position...in fact, most of the "two bounces"

don't hit there either - which makes the room sound much larger.
