Brian_S
First post, so be gentle. I have to say, great forum! I'm thinking of setting up a new HT with RF-35's or RF-5's. From everything I've read, the RC-7 is a superior center channel to the RC-35. I would go with the RF-7 to match, but I think they might be overkill for my room (22x19x9) and I'm afraid of poor sound due to their higher sensitivity than the RF-5 or RF-35. I have a HK AVR525 to drive everything, which from what I've read, compliments the Reference line well. My dilemma is that the RC-7 is real cherry veneer while the RF-35 or RF-5 are vinyl. How similar do the two finishes compare? Is there a huge difference in look? Can anyone that has an RC-7 paired with RF-35 or RF-5 in cherry comment? Would I be better off going with black, or getting the RF-7? Do you think the HK is ok for the RF-7? Thanks
IndyKlipschFan
Unlike the other speakers, a center channel will not be seen as much or at all, depending on location.. It does have ports in the rear, so let it breathe too. Even a center in black, IMO, will not take away from your system at all. It is a far superior speaker and should be.. It is the flagship model...and is built different and with better (and larger) drivers than what you currently have. Also consider how much info is on the center channel in any HT your better off going larger and better here more so than any other speaker.. I think the match if in the same close color too will not/ should not be an issue. You may have to tone it down a little or turn up the other speakers up some. That, too, with many of the AV units today is also a "no brainer." Go big n enjoy life.... Your movie soundtrack and HDTV will sound great! Last, welcome to the forum.. Your going to LOVE your system!

I have mine, backed up by a 200 watt per channel amp, in a 14 x 15 foot room, and I still cannot be any happier with the results! It just friggan sounds awesome in there as it is. As for your H/K reciever - it will work nicely with the RF-7s. Granted, down the road when you are able to, it will be nice to upgrade to an external amp, but for now, the H/K will work beautifully. RickB
If you can swing the RF-7s then I would definitely get them. I use RF-5s for surrounds with my RF-7s, and they go great together. Unless they have changed since I bought my RF-5s, they use wood veneer on them, not vinyl.
Brian_S
Thanks for all the great feedback! I stand corrected on the RF-5's. According to the website they are wood veneer, not vinyl. I know "color" shouldn't be an issue, it would mainly be to please the wife! I like the idea of going black for the center if I choose the RF-35s. RickB, can you tell me how the RF-5's sound compared to the RF-7's? Once I add a subwoofer (thinking SVS PB12-ISD), am I going to notice a difference? It would be nice to save a little $$.
