Crackerman
Hello - please help. I'm currently running my MC250 with a Bottlehead Foreplay pre and a Seduction phono stage through my Quartets with "nice" results. I have Tung-Sol, Bugle Boy, RCA's and may other tubes I swap out in both bottleheads. My mids always sound a tad harsh. I was wondering if I should move on to a pair of Quicksilver mini's, or first change out my old home depot speaker wire and monster IC's? I've read that the old McIntosh autoformers are the closest sound I'll get to tube, so would loosing power and switching be a waste? Is it my generic cable, IC's, could I use a power conditioner? I have the Quartets 18" off the ground on anchor stands which helped improve the bass - now I need help with the mids. Any suggestions???? TIA. j-malotky
HMMM. Strange results. First, I doubt speaker wire will change the effect. I own a lot of MC 250's and I would call the midrange a touch on the laid back side compared to tubes. Is there anyone local that can take a look at your 250 to make sure it is operating properly? Otherwise look into your Quartet xovers. JM
