atomicskiier01
My wife's wonderful siamese cat decided, I have no idea how, to put a small dent in one of my RF-35 woofers. My guess is that she tried to jump up on it and her claw pushed into it. I was planning on contacting the Klipsch parts department to get a replacement, but I wanted to gauge on how difficult this might be to do. I wanted to get this done before the RF-35 goes away, and I can still get parts for it. Have any of you on here ever had to replace the woofer cone on a reference product? I will post some pics later if I remember.
DrWho
I can't imagine trying to do a recone on those woofers so I would suggest just leaving it be (perhaps try to reinforce it), or just get a whole new driver for it []
MarkBK
Just replacing the driver should be easy. I used to manage a service center that did a huge volume in reconing - JBL, Altec, Tannoy, EV, etc, etc and in all likelyhood replcement driver will be more cost effective. it may be the only option available today too - not sure if Klipsch offers recone kits. The driver replacement is as easy as removing the screws holding the driver - remove speaker leads from terminals, install leads on new driver - watch for polarity - remount driver and your done. DrWho
I recone all the time too, but these cerametallic cones are way too brittle for such an operation. Heck, you barely have to touch them to leave a dent.
mtbsej
My son was playing with a spoon and dented my rf25 woofers. Just give Klipsch a call and they will be able to help you out. The speakers are very easy to change out. you just need the star shape tool. Good luck. Jonathan
atomicskiier01
Thanks for the tips. I was never planning on re-coning, and the driver replacement is my plan. Does anybody know how much this might set me back? What did it cost for your RF-25 driver?
DrWho
Well you'll have to call them anyway, so here's the number: 1-800-Klipsch I can't imagine it being any more than $50, but who knows. If you're patient you might get lucky and find someone parting out an RF-35 on ebay or something. I'll keep an eye out if I see anything come up. So how bad is the tear? And is the cat still alive? [] The tear is very minor and there has been no change in sound quality at all. I was waiting for someone to ask about the cat, and yes, she's still around[]
fastlane
Too bad. I have a k-1083-sb woofer I would sell to a forum member for $35 + shipping. It goes to the RF-5 and has the black dust cap, though.
