Help RC-3 speaker plastic is broken!!

Recommended Posts

I purchased an RC-3 off of eBay but after it was shipped to my house it

broke the right speaker (I believe this happened when shipping - no

insurance offered).

The plastic outer ring (that has the TORX screws to hold it in place) was shattered where the screws go in.

Of the 4 torx screws only 1 still has solid plastic behind it.

What can I do? It appears that the speaker itself is glued to the

plastic support ring, so I think in order to fix this I will need an

entirely new speaker!! ugh.... depression is setting in, please help

with advice.... :(

From your description, it sounds like your woofer basket/frame was damaged in shipment. If it got rough handling that is possible, but the handling had to be quite rough. I know that some express shipping companies do toss small packages around.

Contact one of our parts people at 800-klipsch and we will advise what part needs to be replaced and the cost. If you have a Torx 20 driver, the repair is not difficult at all. Perhaps you can contact the shipping company to make a claim for the cost of repair.

Thanks for the information Bob, yep, this must have happened in shipping, it was with UPS and unfortunately we didn't have it insured.

I actually took a TORX wrench to it yesterday and removed all 4 screws, as I pulled the speaker out a bunch of little broken fragments fell out from behind where each screw seated into the speaker. So 3/4 of the plastic attachment points are destroyed. It looks like the plastic ring is actually glued or sealed onto the speaker itself? If that is not the case then "AMEN"!!

I will give your guys a call to see what can be done.

It also broke all 4 pegs that were holding the screen cover on... does Klipsch still sell those screens for the RC-3?

Yiotta, I am not 100% positive, but I am fairly certain that all UPS shipments automatically have a $100 minimum amount of insurance. Anything more than that must be purchased separately. If so, it might cover your broken parts. Worth looking into.

Thanks, I will contact UPS about this.

I got an email from Klipsch support and the unfortunately the plastic

ring is a sealed part of the speaker... so I guess I am going to need a

new K-1085-SV 6.5" cone :(

Any suggestions on where I could find one? I asked how much one would

be from Klipsch, cringing at the thought.... I just dont see any way to

repair this thing :(
