kp3002's

Well all I know is that it's a two-way design with 3 ports below the

woofer. The cabinet is in a trapezoidal shape which makes for easier

arraying of multiple speakers and the ability to be used as freaken

huge stage monitors (it would take 6 speakers to make a circle) [;)] I

wanna say they are about 42 inches tall and weigh in at around 70

pounds? They are definetly tanks and have broken many a stand in their

day.

The woofer is a KP-48, and I'm not sure what squaker is being used, but

I think it's a tractrix with a 2" throat. The most I've had these

speakers apart was removing the woofer and the input terminal (which

can be easily rewired for bi-amping). The passive crossover is mounted

directly on the rear of the input terminal and I believe it even has a

pair of fuses. They can take 500W continuous and I've had as much as

1500W pumping through them (shame on me *slaps wrist*). What is that,

135dB peak? [H] I would claim they have usuable output down to around

45Hz before it starts getting really distorted, but I've been dying to

find their official spec sheet.

There is a metal protective grill along the front and a handle on the

top and at the bottom of the rear. There is also one of those cups for

stand mounting. All are made of fibreglass. I don't recall there being

any corner guards (probably due to its shape).

Is that what you were looking for? They were the speakers that got me

obsessed with Klipsch and it's so sad the pro line has been dropped. It

was always so much better than the competition.

The only thing I don't like about them is how sometimes the metal

protective grill will start buzzing when you crank the volume...But it

only happens when you drop the speaker and bend the grill a bit (that's

right, a speaker dropped down a flight of cement stairs and the only

thing wrong is a slightly bent grill - you can't even see the bend

unless you know where it is). The easy workaround is to take the grill

off and put in a few rubber bushings between the grill and the stoppers

that the screws go through.

42" tall and 70 pounds, I doubt if I would stand mount those puppies. So do you think that photo of 3000C on that Musicgoround site in Michigan are very similar? They want like $349 for the pair and they're up my Picky's in Detroit. That horn must be enormous!

I dunno - I can't imagine them being much different, but I've never heard them. It seems the 3000C is a bit on the smaller side, but it looks like the same woofer and a very similar horn. The horn isn't too huge - 15" wide mouth, but the driver behind them is huge [;)]

$350 is definetly a good deal, but you don't need any more speakers Mr. Colter dude...though it would make for a really nice - more portable system for when you don't wanna drag your double stack LSI's around. But don't you have some veneering to do?
