Speaker selection and compatibility.

I have recently auditioned the Klipsch reference line, and my favorites are the RF83, RF62, RB81 and RB61. My concern is that while the RF83 is clearly my favorite, it represents nearly 3 times the cost of the RF62, and I found the voicing between the two speakers quite different. Unfortunately the music and modes selected did not allow to form any opinion of the surround speakers.

My choices seem to be one of these two alternatives: either an RF83 based system which for budgetary reasons would dictate more affordable surrounds. A second alternative would be an RF62 based system with surrounds using the same 6" drivers. The timbre matching of the second system would be very close. But since the RF83 uses different drivers, the tibre matching would be more difficult with surrounds.

Given the speakers listed, what combination would you recommend.

Woulda been a no brainer if had had stopped with the RF62 and not gone into the other room to hear the RF83 :)

Thanks for any suggestions

Thats a tough one. I would go with the RF62 based system. Im no expert but there is something about having the same drivers, i mean the exact same sound(midrange etc) and timbre matching(or as close as you can get). I went to the theater and looked and all their speakers were the same cabinet size and the same speaker. I looked at the klipsch Ultra 2 series and they are the same size woofer. Thats tells me believable sound fields are created when you have several speakers as close to the same as possible. I know timbre matching is only mostly important on your front stage and its OK to have diffrent surrounds but I think to get true system synergy they all need to be the same. Thats why im now upgrading my SS.5 for SS3 to match my fronts on output, woofer, midrange and sound. Save the extra cash and get the damn fine RF62 :).

Some possible configs

4XRB61 with 2xRF62 and a RC62(RC64 if you have a big screen like me) Add a nice sub(SVS, HSU ETC). There is a nice 7.1

I prefer

4XRS62 with 2XRF63 and a RC64 an outlaw 1070...and dual SVS PCultra2 Subs....[:D]

But really it all depends on what your trying to build...dedicated home theater? A system that would be good with live DVD audio concert recordings? Something equally as good for 2 channel music? hmm your config all depends on what your using it for I guess :)
