Darien
Ok so I am building a home theater. I am trying to use some existing speakers i have laying around from an "All in one 5.1 system" These speakers happen to say 3ohms on the back of them.... My receiver I was planning to hook them up to has settings for 4 and 8 ohm speakers.... What should I do? Use setting for 4ohms? Is that safe for the receiver? Buy new speakers? (these speakers are lower end)
Guest " "
Don't use the speakers.....you will damage your amps. If you must use them....you need to obtain a device called an autoformer for each speaker, which would allow you to manipulate these settings. The cost of the autoformer is about 10 bucks per 10 watts. So if you needed a 50 watt one, it would cost you 50 bucks. One for each speaker. This could cost more than the speakers are worth.
