6 ohm receiver w/ Klipsch

Huh? I've never heard of a "6 0hm" receiver...

Most receivers are designed for operation with 8 ohm speakers, but will drive loads in MOST cases as low as 4 ohms. Very few ($$$) will drive loads under 4 ohms safely. The ohm rating of the speaker is it's impedance/resistance.

Does that answer your question?

This is a "cheat" by amp manufacturers that is becoming more common. An amp will show greater output at 6 ohms than at 8. If the amp is struggling to meet the amount of rated power the market (or marketing department) desires, they can rate at 6 ohms.

An amp rated at 6 ohms will be totally safe wtih 8 ohm loads but will be down in power a bit. If you plan on playing at really high volume, a unit with a 6 ohm rating may not be the best choice for you.

Bear in mind that we speaker companies are not perfect either. Speakers vary considerably in impedance and our 8 ohm ratings are "nominal".

My only concern is damaging the speakers or receiver. If they won't get damaged, then it's good to go, right?

"Would hooking up 8 ohm Klipsch speakers to a 6 ohm receiver damage anything?  Or is it OK to do this?"

If this was an acurate senerio (there are a few recivers and amps that have options for switching 8, 6, or 4 ohms), using an 8 ohm speaker on a reciever switched for 6 ohms, would result in the amp delivering 33% less power than it is cablable of at 6 ohms, but would reduce distortioin, improve dampening factor, and usally sound cleaner than a under impedance loaded senerio.

But if the switching really involves the use of large resistors to change the apparent load seen by the amp, then the improved dampening factor, reduced distortion, and cleaner sound would no longer be true,
