joec64
Is there anyway to combine a Quintet Center with 2 Quintet sats to make a more powerful center channel? Thanks Joe
jdm56
Can't you get enough output by tweaking up the center level when you balance your speakers in the setup mode?
Guest BobG
Using multiple speakers is a BAD thing. They do not reinforce each other over most of the frequency band. Instead, they interfere and cause really miserable frequency balance problems. It's called comb filtering. You can try this for yourself by taking any speaker (small is easier) and use a long wire. Listen to the speaker in a good location away from reflecting walls, then, while you are listening, have a friend hold the speaker about a foot from the side wall. Notice how the mids and highs get really ugly? That is the interference between the speaker and the reflected energy off the side wall. Same would happen if you used two speakers, identical or not. Only conceivable benefit to multiple speakers is more output. Instead, turn up the volume on that channel. In professional sound reinforcement systems, they use arrays of multiple speakers. One of greatest challenges for the system designer is to ensure the speakers in the array(s) do not interfere with each other. For that reason (and for greater output), horn speakers are always used. Horn speakers can have very precise coverage (dispersion) patterns. Thus they can be combined into arrays with minimal overlap and interference. Still, those seats which receive substantial ouput from more than one speaker in an array get bad sound. Right next door, it can be fine. funny how sound works... cyberman9000
Bob, I understand your point. Maybe a dumb question but would you get the same result if speakers were stacked. I seem to recall stacking two speakers for left and two for right was popular in the early '70's.
