I have a Fisher 200b tuner and one switch selects between tune, microtune, AFC 1, AFC 2. Unit has three indicator lights for stereo, mute, and AFC. Sometimes the AFC light will come on even when switch has not postioned on AFC. I assume AFC is automatic frequency control but don't understand the function (controls drift?) or why it has two AFC selections. Even if you don't have this tuner any input is appreciated. I do not have the owners manual. I have a Magnum Dynalab and the Fisher pulls in stations better and just seems to be a better product. The Fisher also cost less. Can't compare Fisher sound to Dynalab at this time Fisher needs to be reworked as it's from circa 1963 and is stock. I also used the Magnum Dynalab Signal Sleuth($350.00) with both tuners. It had no positive effect on the Fisher and very little on the Dynalab tuner. I have since returned the signal sleuth. Thanks, TRIP

Thanks Al, Thought there was more to it than that. Negative charge introduced into the tube to increase/decrease draw. So a negative charge would have more electrons right? Postive charge more protons? What's a balanced charge called? Is this true only with DC? What the deal with all that? Reading everything I can get my hands on but seem to missing a few major points. For reading/setting the bias for tube amp I put one ohm, one %, half watt resistors from the cathode pin to ground for each tube socket. Measure the millivolts across the resistor for each tube using a auto-ranging digital VM. Volt meter will read -20 or whatever. The higher the number the more draw. The plate has a positive charge and opposites attract. I know how to adjust and to what range but don't understand the term 'negative voltage'. Is it actual negative voltage (how can this be)? Don't the II's have a trictrax mid 90x60?

I really don't know jack but had this problem with a brand new pair of Heresy's. Was able to fix myself. Since that moment of victory I am now making my own interconnects. Most likely there is a nut on the back side of the cup (plastic piece were the binding posts are attached)attached to the binding post. Remove the cup and take a look. Just as you stated- be carefull not to break the connection from post to lead or damage anything else. If you do break the connection don't worry, you can resolder. Hope this helps. Trip

"Sub-woofer Scam Man"- shame, shame, shame! Good posts everyone! The surround sound thing doesn't do it for me. I find the whole thing distracting. Might be good every now and then for a movie at home and at the movie theater, esp IMAX- but, to each his own. Manufactures,dealers, retailers have found a cash cow in surround sound. Consumer is depending on "Sub-woofer Scam Man" for advice and he would be more than happy to help. Bose has one hell of a marketing dept.. They remind me of McDonalds. I see a live band about once a month usually in bars/clubs and small venues. In bars and clubs they're usually set up in a corner or in the end of room. Have yet to see any surround speakers, maybe I just missed them. If your near Baltimore on March 27, Robert Bradleys Blackwater Surprise will be in town - should be a good show. JMHI-Trip

I don't belive the Hersey I's had any foam or such materials anywhere in cabinet. Is no damping such as the I's good? Klipsch parts list shows the k-24-k woofer for both Hersey I&II's. If the original woofer was different in the H-I wouldn't Klipsch instruct to add the foam "u" when using the k-24-k in H-I? The k-24-k woofer specs would have to have the proper box volume. The foam in my H- II's is in an upside down "u" that isolates woofer; foam is front to back, contacts the bottom of box and arc is at bottom of squawker. A rough guess would be that total box volume is 1.7 ft. Volume of "u" is substantially less. Why no foam in I's if they have same volume and woofer as II's?

Why would removing the foam and essentially creating a greater distance between woofer and foam increase the damping? My Heresy II's stock from the factory have the same "u" shape 1 inch foam around woofers.

I received no comments to my original post. Tried Heresy's on stands on their sides for several days then upside down on stands (tweeter down). Sounded better, more like live music not music coming from two boxes upside down then on sides. Bass response was decreased in any position when on stands. Sounded best when on floor. Just my conclusion.

Forte and Heresey II: squakers are exactly the same, tweeter horns and diaphram are same, tweeter drivers different.

Just talked to Klipsch and gentleman stated points are 6K and 700Hz for both the Forte I and Heresy II. I then asked if this meant the crossovers were interchangeable. He said "no", each x-over was designed specifically for the each speaker. This doesn't make sense to me if the points are the same. Can anyone tell me why the x-overs would not be interchangeable. Bob, I understand your point. Maybe a dumb question but would you get the same result if speakers were stacked. I seem to recall stacking two speakers for left and two for right was popular in the early '70's.

Hi Paul, I do have Heresy's and don't understand possibly due to to my lack of terminology or ignorance. What do you mean by imaging (separation)? Wouldn't turning the speaker on it's side increase separation and reduce soundstage and bass (speakers would have to be placed on stands). With the 60x40 degree horns vertical, the 60 would go up and down and 40 left and right. I have a 16ft x 25ft room with standard height ceiling. I don't understand this benefit. I'll try it but am confused. My cabinets have no damping, bare wood only. Is this typical of stock Heresy's? Thanks, Trip

Here's an opinion I thought you might enjoy: Vacuum Tube Valley (VTV)magazine #6 compared the Fisher 500c to various SE amps(el34,sweep,300b). Stated SE mid was great, bass mediocre and rolled off highs. Some listeners preferred this sound. Said 500C had seamless balanced sound from top to bottom. Stated all tube receivers like the 500C will never be re-manufactured and would probably cost several thousands of dollars to duplicate the quality and performance of 500c. Equipment used: Dynaco tube cdv-pro, CHORUS I's or B&W DM110's. 500C 1963 list price was $389.50. Output roughly 29 watts/channel RMS.Uses 7591's which are being produced by Sovtek (not 7591xyz). VTV is worth checking out if your into tubes. Bottom line: Regardless of equipment used (ss, tube, cheap, expensive,trendy, old school), if it sounds good to you that's all that matters. Alpine makes decent pots -check their site. Trip
