  1. Buckster, I am right there with you. I do enjoy the equipment, but I got into this damn hobby many years ago out of my love for the music...I have always thought that your gear is secondary to the music..I would rather spend most of my time listening..If you enjoy your system that is all that should matter....
  2. I am with you. What is there to get??? I have always thought with music, you either like it or you do not. Can't get much simpler than that. My father being a drummer in bands through the 60's-early 70's exposed us to all types of music. I do not remember any "education" on his part as to how to "get it". A certain style of musics moves you or does not.... As for me, I love 50's-60's Jazz guitar from the likes of Sal Salvador,Tal Farlow,Barney Kessel,Grant Green etc. I have always loved guitar oriented music and have been a huge blues fan(100's of live shows), so making the move to digging the Jazz guys was not a leap and had no learning curve, for me that is.....
  3. They look fantastic. Congrats. I agree that this hobby lends itself to meeting some interesting people who can turn you on to music or ideas you may not have considered....Joe
  4. Wow,wow,wow.....Can't imagine having that trio...
  5. In my former life, I owned '79 Lascalas and drove them with many different set ups. I had great results with McIntosh solid state. I enjoyed them in that set up for quite a while. I then decided to add a tube amp to the mix. I used 2 different tube integrateds until divorce forced the sale of the LaScala's. I found the sound with my FIsher X-101(modded by Paul at BizzyBee) to be a great match. I was in a large room and things just seemed to really bloom with that unit. Very listenable and dynamic. Do not remember feeling that I needed more power. I had equally impressive results with a modern Audio Research CA-50 tube integrated. The one box solution is very attractive solution and can be great sounding as well. For what it is worth, I did own a Cayin A-88T and found it to be a wonderful amplifier. Very well built with(to my ears)a warmish vintage sound. Did not have my Klipsch at the time, so I cannot comment on how it would sound with your LaScala's. The remot option on the Cayin is nice as is the ability to switch between Triode/Ultralinear on the fly. I will be curious to read about what you end up doing and your impressions...
  6. Congrats on your Corns....I just grabbed 84 Corns for my self early last week for a song...I am loving them big time. I missed that big sound that I used to have on my 79 LaScala's. Enjoy them...
  7. All I can say is wow.....I can only imagine having room for those big boys. I do believe they would peel the paint from the walls.....
  8. Josh, your piano black looks amazing. Must have been a ton of work. Thanks to everyone for the info on my new to me Cornwalls. The plywood on my pair is truly fantastic. The grain is very good, much better than the Birch LaScala's I used to own. I believe I am going to apply my first couple of coats of Tung Oil today.....Joe
  9. I have looked at pics of Chris's Decorators and they are beautiful. What exactly is a decorator model? I am a bit fuzzy there. You mention that mine are butt jointed and not mitered. Is that uncommon? I appreciate all of the comments regarding finishing. I may just oil and wax them to start. There are no water stains from errantly placed glasses, and I want to keep it that way....Joe
  10. Here is a closer look at the left speaker....They are sweet!!
  11. Josh, I appreciate your input. I will certainly search for pics of Chris's Cornwalls. I want to do it once and do it right if I am going to finish them. I will try and post a pic of my set up later today....Joe
  12. That is the pair I bought. I wasn't even looking. I just happened to look on Want ad digest, saw the ad and dropped him and e-mail. He was a great guy and he grossly underestimated the condition of the speakers. I asked him if he was open to offers and he said $500 cash takes them. If the weather had not been bad, I would have picked them up on Sunday. Had to wait till Wednesday. I know they were a steal. Nicest pair I have seen. I live in Delmar NY, so it was only a 45 minute drive for me. He knew that he let them go too cheaply, but he said that he was a man of his word. Getting the serial #matching packing boxes was an added bonus. Can't decide if I should put a some sort of clear coat on the Birch. I am open to suggestions here. I would love to say that I am sorry that I beat you to the pucnh on these, but I would't actually mean it....They look and sound awesome...Joe
  13. Thanks for the post. My "A" system which is in a 16'x20' room in my basement consists of a very cool and excellent sounding pair of Morel Octave 5.2's. I am driving them with a vintage(rebuilt&1 previous owner) Musical Fidelity system. The amp is a Studio T. It has dual torroids, 150wpc and class A to25 wpc. The Pre is an early musical fidelity that was supposedly hand built by the founder. I do not care about that. It flat out just sounds warm, dynamic, and above all musical. I spin vinyl on a modded Technics SL1200 MKii. Sounds great to my ears. Digital is via an old Denon DCD 1560 with a Denon D/A with their Alpha Processing. The Morels are quite beguiling. Very dynamic even though the dual woofers are only 5.25". They need serious power to get moving hence the big amp.The tweeters are spectacular. I have had great luck with the Paul Speltz Anti Cables in this system. I took out the Cardas and put in the Anti Cables and was floored. It is very cheap and works wonders my system. The A system is only used as an escape pod from the noise of the family. Most of the listening will be on the "B" system. Poor me. I am fortunate to have a wife that does not care and actually appreciates good sound. The Cornwalls are spectacular and will not be leaving my possession. I will post pics soon....Joe
