nola
Hello My post Katrina set up includes: Klipschorns, Academy center, LaScalas and Heresys rear Paired subwoofers from Madison Amps (218s) Mc240 Tube amp for Khorns Outlaw 750 for center and rear Dayton Audio 1000w amps for subs. My preamp/processor ia an Outlaw 990. It offers about 12different modes for phono. These include basic stereo (I think all other spkrs are turned off, limits bass to Khorns), bypass, 5ch, some Dolby PL IIs, Neo 6? etc. Most of my new "old" records are from the 50s-80s, Jazz-Rock. Some were recorded in mono. I think some of the records are awesome. I can't explain it, but I think they sound better than some CDs. Most of the sound modes offered on the 990 sound quite nice, but they are very different. In order to achieve the closest approximation to being in the studio when the tracks were laid down (which I think is our goal), is simple good old fashioned stero the best mode? I will assume the answer will also be true for my cassette tapes, mostly from the 80s-if not, le me know. Thanx for any advice.
mas
I am not sure if this is what you want, but I would run the mono records in mono and the stereo records in stereo. The additional matrix processing options do not add anything of positive value in my opinion.
