Smokem
I was asked a question today about using surround speakers as mains. Would surrounds be good as mains. The person asked because he will use his system for movies only. I told him that I would have to get some expert opinion on the subject. His socalled systemm would be Synergy 4-S3's and 1-C3. Thanks for the help
bhenry
Surrounds would not be good for main speakers. Speakers designed specifically for surrounds have a completely different way of dispersing the sound, some have two tweeters facing in opposite directions (there are terms like di-pole and bi-pole, but I'm not sure which is which), therefore the sound would not be localized. That being said, I have floorstanding rear channel speakers (RF-3II's) that work pretty well, so I would say you could use "main" type speakers as surrounds, but not the other way around. Smokem
Thanks. I didn't think the sound would be quite right. You just confirmed it.
