Rickieheinz
I had just purchased a used Cary 300 SEI which Iam using with my Klipsch RF 3 II's and a Sony DVD( 685 sacdchanger) that sounds extremely good in almost all areas except for afew of the really high notes in some Soprano parts. I was wondering ifit is in part because of the titanium compression tweeter combined witha SET type aamp. Any ideas? Any ideas as o what Klipsch speakers would go well with a Cary 15 watt per channel SET amp?
jt1stcav
Does this problem stem from a faulty mastered disc or any disc you play? Are your tweeters the problem at high gain levels or at any volume? Has this problem just crept up since purchasing the Cary SET amp or does any amp connected to your RF-3IIs reproduce this problem with high notes/vocal parts you're experiencing? IMHO any Klipsch should work well with SET amps as long as their efficiency rating is at least 92dB @ 1W/1M (the higher the better), just as any high quality SET power amp should mate well with Klipsch (as long as the loudspeakers are sensitive enough to handle their lower power). If your Cary is 15Wpc, that shouldn't pose a problem for your 98dB efficient RF-3IIs; my no-name Chinese 300B SET stereo amp is only 6.5Wpc, and they drive my 97dB sensitive RB-75's titanium tweeters without a hitch, and without any problems at higher registers or vocals at normal listening levels (a different story altogether if I crank up the gain and the amp clips and the monitors distort). FWIW...
Rickieheinz
It was on a few high notes by a soprano on one of my cd's. Ifound that I had inadvertantly switched the 8 ohm switch to 4 ohms, Idon't know if that was what may have caused it or not. I will have tolisten to that CD again. I have found that I am totally inlove with this SET sound it does seem to draw you into the music more.I listened to the cary on a pair of 86 db/watt meter Wilson, I thinkthey are 8 ohm speakers that sounded fabulous and only required a tinybit of volume from my Cary amp.
