Stereo Receiver Question

Recommended Posts

So the back of a Sony receiver, next to the power cord and such states "190W." I assume that is power input. Now if there is only 190W in to the receiver, how can it state that it outputs 100WPC, 8-16ohm speakers???? I had a customer tear me a new one yesterday because he said that there was no way it was 100WPC because it is only pulling in 190W from the wall? ANY HELP PLEASE?!?!?!?

Receiver - Sony STR-DE197

I believe it has to do with the charging of the capacitors in the unit itself not whats coming in, I could be wrong or close but I have always come across that when I was in the retail of electronics, have been out a while and am forgetting most things and learning new stuff. Someone more "techy" will be along soon.
