reynoldslaw
My Quartets say they are 8 ohm nominal so what would the effect of using either a 4 ohm or 16 ohm post be? I have read on another thread to use the 4 ohm but not sure why as I tried both and can't discern any difference. I have the solid state MC250 rated at 50 watts. Guest " "
I would be interested understanding in any math formula that can justify using the 4 ohm tap with 8 ohm speakers.
WMcD
I use the 4 ohm tap. As you can see from the graph, the impedance of the Quartet drops below 8 ohms and in one small range, below 4 ohms. From what I've read, amplifier distortion increases when the speaker impedance drops low. Also, there is probably less noise on the 4 ohm tap simply because it is steping down the amplifer voltage output. Gil
WMcD
Here is the same graph in a .pdf file which gives more resolution. Gil Impedance of Quartet.pdf
