mowntnbkr
Lonelobo and Kevin, I missed your posts on the Thorens It is a TD 160MKII. I purchased it from Dave Archembeau of Vinyl Nirvana. It is real nice, dead quiet and all the bearings are tight and spin forever. I put a SME 3009 Series II improved w/ removable headshell. I had the Tonearm/headshell completely rewired by Alfred Kayese of KRaduio products, (hell of a nice Canuck)about 5 months ago and have played maybe a dozen albums since then. I also purchased from him an original SME adapter plate which from my understanding are getting hard to find. It has a Audio Technica OC-9 Cart, which sounds fantastic. The plinth is custom, walnut and maple which is also very nice. All in all it is a great TT. Kevin, it and the Blueberry Xtreme would be a great foundation for a 2ch. TT setup. Hope this helps Sam
Klewless
I have a similar room to yours and the exact same problem. I made some sides for my Khorns which allows me to twist them in the corner aiming the mid/tweeter to cross just in front of my head. Works out quite well. I have used LaScalas in said room (good quality sub required if serious bass is to be heard) with very good results. My recommendation is to go LaScalas if the Khorn must go. Good Luck! mowntnbkr
I am going to close off the backs and keep them. Is there anything special other than the obvious that needs to be done or that you did to close them off?
Klewless
There are some excellent examples of stand-alone corners on this forum. Just construct the corner and set the Khorn in it with no mods to the Khorn itself. I my case I cut boards slightly larger than the width of the top housing where the Khorn actually touches the wall and fastened them to the bass horn where the "missing backs" would be. I attached them with eye bolts.
mowntnbkr
I am just curious: I have one back closed off and I can definately notice the difference, but now I am wondering. I made the backs inset so they are flush with the to the grill cloth, becuase I have done this I know I have altered the the volume of area that would be part of the horn, how much would this affect the bass response. The panels I made are 15"x38"x 1/2 inch thick. That is 1170 cu in. of volume I have encroached on per speaker. Any input would be appreciated.
