  1. I just recently purchased the RB 3s at Good Guys for $329. I checked the Internet first, and no one was within a $100 of the sale price.
  2. I've owned two pair of Bose, both back in the 70's when I first got into stereos. I had a pair of 301s which were not a bad thing for a first time stereo owner. I later upgraded to the 501s which were horrible. Lots of low end and little, if anything on the high end. At that point, I swore off Bose for life. I was introduced to Klipsch in the mid 80's and have stuck with them ever since. A friend of a friend has Bose 901s and has bragged and gone on and on about how great they are. I recently added a pair Klipsch bookshelf speakers and this individual tried to convince me to sell my 10.2s, forgoe the bookshelf Klipsch and invest in a pair of 901s. So I go over to their house and he plays them. He has the system cranking and they sound pretty good. However, I ask him to turn them down to a comfortable listening level and what a difference. The bass is extremely weak and (I'm not a audio expert, so bear with me on this) the spacing of the instruments was nowhere near as good as my 10.2s. I leave his house and go and get the bookshelf speakers and hook them up. They are much better sounding than the Bose, especially at lower volumes where the bass is clear and solid. I personally feel the 901s are overrated and based more on exaggeration and hype than actual performance.
  3. I just purchased a pair of the RB 3s to add to my existing pair of Klipsch 10.5s and it has made a huge difference. I read some reviews prior to buying them and the only knock seemed to be that the woofer was too small and did not have enough bass response. I've found this not to be the case. In fact, after I wired them up, I had to drop the overall bass on my system. Due to my home's layout, I'm unable to do a surround sound setup, so I have to part with my RC 3II (see attached photo). If anyone is interested, I'd be will to part with it for around $200.
  4. I'm not an expert in the technical field of music recording technology, but I'm curious about something. When I play my John Fogerty "Premonition" DVD on my surround system, it is obviously far better sounding than the musical CD version pumped out of my stereo system. Does the music industry have any plans to format music the same way on DVDs and CDs? I've noticed this huge diffence on a number of DVDs and CDs (The Band, AC/DC, George Thorogood) I have at home.

  6. I've heard a lot of good things about the Panasonic SA-HE100. Very reasonable price and specs wise it compares to the Yamaha. Any comments?
  7. I just recently upgraded my system. One of the items I bought was a Klipsch RC-3 center speaker. My boneheaded goof was making the assumption that by adding a center speaker I would greatly enhance the musical quality of my system. DUH! I find out that center speakers are primarily for DVDs and the dialogue within movies. So, I think, OK...no problem, I have two terminals in the back, I'll just hook them up to the B terminal of my Panasonic SA-HE100 receiver. The sound is great (an improvement over my previous setup) but I'm wondering if there is something else I should do. When I'm running both A and B speakers, I cannot use the enhanced sound controls on my receiver. Any advice for this bonehead?
