  1. I've got a daughter (Lauren, aka Manita....... spanish for little sister) that wants a good pair of noise cancelling headphones (not ear buds), and I'm not sure what to buy. She loves music, not sure where she gets that from...... anyway, the price limit is set at $800;  based on Amazon.com ratings research, that should easily be enough to get her something really nice. She takes very good care of her stuff, and I've no concerns buying her highend headphones. She's not the type that would trash'em within a year.

    What do I buy her?

Avoiding deli lines and old packaged meat I bake or grill a big chicken breast or sometimes turkey. Half sandwich on rye bread and handful of chips is my secret weight loss tool.

Thought I'd try a change from the usual Hellmann's and spicy mustard mix. Other stuff goes on too but I like a nice sloppy coat of mess before anything goes on.

Yeah, no. Way sweeter from what I remembered growing up. Probably throwing it out.

Flipping through the channels last night and I in-advisedly stopped at this program special:

    The Queen Family Singalong
    ABC, 8pm

This fourth installment of the Singalong franchise is hosted by Darren Criss and features celebrities belting out an hour of hits from the legendary rock band Queen in honor of the group’s 50th anniversary, and inviting home audiences to sing along. Among the performances are “The Show Must Go On” by Adam Lambert, “Another One Bites the Dust” by Derek Hough featuring Alexander Jean, “Under Pressure” by Fall Out Boy, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Jimmie Allen featuring Miss Piggy, “We Will Rock You” by JoJo Siwa and Orianthi, “We Are the Champions” by OneRepublic, “Somebody to Love” by Pentatonix and “Don’t Stop Me Now” by cast members of Broadway’s The Lion King and Aladdin.

I was soon mesmerized by this spectacle. The talent was beyond mediocre, the  staging was abysmal and despite the weird costumes of some of the performers, there was absolutely no mention of Freddie's sexual orientation, probably so Christian parents would let thier kids watch it.

Now I'm going to have to forgo listening to Queen for quite awhile, until my sketchy memory washes this assault on music from my mind.

Sounds like you're in need of a little Yoko Ono vinyl on your rig. That'll flog out your ears and bring'em back to normal.

    Hey Y’All!

Last weekend, Lorrie and I had a guest spend a couple of nights with us so we all could attend a Hot Wheels show about 30-miles away. He's a real nice guy and about 10-years younger than us. It was his first time here but Lorrie has known him about 15-years or so (he's from Knightdale, North Carolina). After they looked over her collection and planning strategy for the show, we all started to relax after his 8+hour drive up here to SW Ohio. Something Lorrie told him about was that I still have a working turntable (Yamaha PF-800 / Shure V15 XmR) with a few cartridges to choose from. Well, he was just enamored over the fact that the turntable worked much less was this versatile. He actually enjoys the minute clicks/pops in the vinyl. It was amusing to watch him stand there close to the TT watching it turn.

In my own head, I was being critical of witch cartridge I had on hand sounded best and swapped out a couple for comparison (Orotofon VMS-30MkII and Stanton P888 w/D73-S stylus). Our guest said they all sounded fine, but me being more of the audio-fool than he was, I couldn’t help it. The Stanton rode very low almost as if it would not support the weight of the tonearm and cartridge at its prescribed tracking force. But I concluded that it was just because the stylus is nearly 40-years old and the cantilever’s suspension had no more elasticity. The Orotofon usually had a relaxed sound to it. The Stanton had nothing going for it from when it was new. The tip looked like it was for 78 rpm records only as it was huge. We referred to it as the Godzilla Bicep Claw (good for trying to take skips OUT of records). But I bought the Stanton long before the Yamaha for my first TT; a Technics SL-D300 that was only $150.

The stylus and cartridge for the Shure V15 was only about 20-years old so that had the best chance of sounding good and is still my favorite bang for the buck. I have an older Shure V15 Type V but the stylus had way too many miles on it. Shure even had an offer in the late 90’s to early 2000’s where you could send them your worn out stylus and they would sell you an exact replacement for $20!!! Thankfully, they let me order two new ones.

So, our guest went back home Sunday night and I started diligently trying to get back the sound I once had. The Shure stylus is what I’m working on most so I took it off of the tonearm still attached to the headshell and started applying some Clearaudio stylus cleaner using a Discwasher stylus brush only moving in the outward direction. I then looked at it again with a lighted magnifying glass. The sides of the tip again were sparkling with the reflection. So, from there any improvements would have to come from either a new Jico stylus (@ $250) or a record cleaning machine. Up till now the only thing I’ve used is a Discwasher D4 brush a fluid set that was a birthday gift from when I was 19-years old (I’m 56 now).

Someone I once knew said they had surprisingly good luck with an Okki Nokki unit a friend of his owns and those run about $600.

Is there any others that would be comparable to performance and maybe a little less cost?

Research old posts on the 2-CHANNEL forum. @Garymd has offered very good information on this subject.

Fair price, I paid a bit over 300.....   back in 2009. The guy didn't do what I asked, which didn't sit well with me, but I was okay with his design, it was simpler much less drafting.

Yep I'm his age and have buried four dogs on my property.  Four foot graves and chopping through tree roots about did me in.  I can relate.  I could have paid to have them buried but felt that was the least I could do for them...........

Been there done that too many times myself. Once during a freezing snow storm in the wee hours of the night, around 3am in Broken Arrow, OK.

If you ever needed more evidence that we are living in a Bizzaro world right now... Sirhan Sirhan is being released from prison.

More than 50 years after he carried out one of the most infamous political assassinations in American history, the man who gunned down Robert F. Kennedy was recommended for parole in California.

Sirhan Sirhan — who was 24 when he shot and killed the senator at a Los Angeles hotel in 1968 — was deemed suitable for release by a two-person parole panel Friday afternoon, the first step toward making him a free man. The panel reached its decision, in part, after two of Kennedy's children expressed support for Sirhan's release.

Sirhan, a Palestinian immigrant who had written a manifesto calling for Kennedy's death, had said he was drunk and doesn't remember opening fire at the since-demolished Ambassador Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard.

Kennedy was considered a leading candidate for president and had just won primaries in South Dakota and California at the time of his death. He was murdered nearly five years after his brother, President John F. Kennedy, was shot and killed in Dallas.

Sirhan, now 77, admitted to the killing in 1969 and has been in prison for 53 years. He originally faced the death penalty but his sentence was commuted to life after the state briefly outlawed capital punishment in the 1970s.

It is my understanding that Bobby's own children submitted letters on his (Sirhan) behalf...... and if that wasn't enough, then consider the person "Bobby Kennedy", what's the problem?  It's not like he was somebody other than a rich brat who was slingshot to the position of AG by his nepotist, womanizing  cheat brother.

The fact that you openly admit to disliking oranges proves you're racist, a fascist and need to be incarcerated. Shame on you and you're going to hell.

Any cuisine suggestions would be appreciated ?

Whenever I traveled to the CHITOWN area and had to spend a night or more I always made it a point to eat at this popular Ethiopian restaurant. Actually it was two restaurants in close proximity to one another. About 20 or 30 min. north of the Hancock Tower. Can't recall what the restaurants were called, but damn good food. Good prices too. Other guys from the firm I worked knew about it, of them told me that I had to try it out..... and I did and gave it an A+ rating.

Today I went to my steel supplier for the first time in some months. Hot Roll Mild Steel is is the cheapest commodity there is in the steel world. Last October my supplier was buying at 35 cents a pound. A few months back we were discussing stupid high prices at 75 cents a pound. Today the price is $1.78 PER POUND and if you do not order right then the price can and will change. Since I have been in the business beginning in 1981there has never been anything even remotely close to this run up. One time about 15 years ago there were problems in Africa that disrupted Nickel production and that caused Nickel to top $30,000 a ton briefly. Anything using Nickel like stainless steel  went through the roof. No one seems to know why this current steel run up is going on.

If any of you have major plans involving anything using materials you might want to either put them on hold for some time or do it quickly or at least check in to see what the price tend is. Personally I can't see how this can go on for much longer before cost kills demand. The cheapest double wide around here is $140,000 now. Scary stuff.

A client just purchased a wideflange beam for his new lake house. Beam weight 3,344 lbs, he paid $0.66/lbs.

Steel Costs also vary with shape, for example hot rolled tubes are more per pound than say heavy angle iron or channel sections of the same weight.

Texas's residential market is going bonkers.... house selling for stupid hight prices. Too many Californians are flocking to Texas. My wife's cousin sold her Austin home for $60k over the asking price (sold to Californian). 2x lumber is finally started coming down in price now that AR mills are producing again, but plywood cost are still stupid high.

Countless home builders not using plywood, and screwing up the framing. Good advice for your children and future grand children is DO NOT BUY A HOUSE built between 2020 and 20** (TBD).

Talked to a 13 year old kid staying at his aunt's $2.5 million lake home.  My wife and I clean for them every Friday.  He was up in his room on his phone.  Asked if he had done any fishing yet, he said no.  Later he did go outside, but was laying in a hammock playing on his phone.  I told him the lake he's on is one of the best largemouth bass lakes in the state.  He didn't seem to care.  🙄

It's not the phone, it is the individual and the parents.
