  1. I have owned both versions of the Tekton -
wide side mounted and narrow. I think there is a very subtle
difference, and I prefer the wide-side baffle. In fact, I'd probably
prefer the widest baffle possible for any given volume. But, the
difference is very small. I think the wider one has smoother response
and projects a bit better. Small difference.

    Mark,

Thank you as well for sharing your experience.

Also, for Kudret, et al-I had an exchange w/ Eric regarding the orientation and decided on the wide side.

Here's what he had to say:

    "Regarding the driver
    > mounting, if we do the driver on the wide panel,
    > there is a very slight 1db bump in output between
    > 600Hz-1200Hz (basically mid-range)."

    Hope this helps,
    Paul
  2. This is weird. No matter what I do, the

reply to Paul's question is loaded into the thread ahead of the

    question.

    Paul,

I couldn't hazard a guess. Most of the vented enclosures I've

seen have the driver on the wider side, for what that's worth.

    Neil,

    Thanks for your reply.

Not sure if this is in sequence or not.

No doubt, my question on Orientation messed everything up! [:P]

    Best,

    Paul

  3. Jay,

I've used 2 different aids with good results:

    1. Dawn dish washing liquid. Good old soap and (warm)

water. Remove the faceplate and soak/wipe with a clean rag.

    2. For tougher stuff, not removed by #1, "Krud Kutter". Use the same way as above.

Like I said this has provided me good results. ***Please try a

small corner or spot on your faceplate before going "whole hog".

Hate to have you wipe away lettering, etc..

    Good luck!

  4. I think if you are using a stock vacuum and fluid, the VPI is a good choice.

If you are using the Disc Doctor brushes and fluid(highly

recommended!), the Nitty Gritty 1.0 is all you need-you're just using

    the vac.

Tried to search and find Allan S.'s record cleaning regimen. If

someone or Allan could post it here that would be worth

considering. 2 different paths. Both have yeilded good

    results.

Keep on it. Record cleaning is HIGHLY rewarding!

  5. Michael -

Nice shelves. Unfortunately, my wife won't let me get too close to power tools.

    Charlie -

Which Ikea shelving units are you talking about? I am now in need of

LP storage and I would like to hear more about the shelves you put

together. I hit the Ikea website and saw a few which looked

like they might fit the bill. One was actually a corner

shelving unit that would fit nicely in a spare room in the

basement. Not very fancy (I don't want fancy), but they don't

look very strong in the pics. I'd like to check them out in

person, but the nearest store is in Woodbridge (NoVA) and I don't

expect to be up there anytime very soon. Thanks in advance.

    Chuck,

    I use Ikea "Expedit" shelves.

They work very well for Lp's:

    Hope this helps,

  6. Santuxxi,

Welcome to the forum-you are off to a great start!

A number of folks here (including myself) will recommend vintage gear

as it provides a LOT of bang for your buck. The caveat being it

is older equipment, it needs to have some work done to bring it up to

specs for safe and pleasureable enjoyment.

In vintage, the Scott, Fisher, and Dynaco names are a good place to

start. The Dynaco that member "TigerwoodKhorns" offered looks

    like a pretty good deal.

    A couple other ideas:

-Contact forum member Craig Nosvlaves: http://www.nosvalves.com/

See if he has anything used for sale. Craig works on vintage equipment and builds his own line of amps.

-In the solid state area the Harman Kardon 430, 730, & 930

receivers are forum faves that will mate well with your Heresies, and

    set you back about $100.

Good luck, and let us know what you end up going with.

    Paul
