  1. I am selling a variety of audio equipment that I no longer have a need for due to downtown condo living. Due to the quantity of items, I am not posting pictures. However, I am happy to send you some pictures or show any item to you in person if you are in the Denver area.

    • Klipsch Academy center channel speakers -- 2 available. Oiled Oak finish. This is the highly sought after center speaker match for the Heritage line of speakers in the Chorus/Forte/Quartet family. Condition is good to very good. There are a few small bruises on a couple of corners from when they were shipped to me. $330 each. (http://www.klipsch.com/academy-center-speaker/details)
    • Mondial/Acurus amplifiers -- The Acurus line of amplifiers produce outstanding sound and are very conservatively rated in their power output.
    • A200x5 -- 200 watts per channel, 5 channels - $725. Condition excellent.
    • A200x3 -- 200 watts per channel, 3 channels - $450. Condition excellent.
    • A250x2 -- 250 watts per channel, 2 channels - $250. Condition: Operation -- Very good. Appearance -- Fair. (This unit was used by its previous owner for stage amplification, and had 1/4" input jacks added to it which I removed. Thus, there are a couple extra holes in the back, and the casing shows some signs of wear. The top cover is missing the screws. Runs like a champ, though!)
    • Bang and Olufsen Beogram 1800 turntable. Condition is excellent. $150

I am also selling some Berkline electric reclining home theater seats - posting here: http://denver.craigslist.org/fuo/4141058308.html

Please contact me via the craigslist postings, or via this forum, or directly via my email at drakedw@yahoo.com.

    Thanks,

    Doug

  2. I thought the receiver or amp had to be True HD sound capable? Does a ps3 qualify? Thanks

No, the receiver does not have to be True HD capable. All you need is enough external inputs to accept the analog 5.1/7.1 hand-off from the BD player (if it has them).

I also have an earlier generation PS3, but the fan on it sounds like a jet engine during movies so I was glad to find an alternate BD player as well.

My understanding is that the first generation PS3s could decode the TrueHD/MasterHD formats with the firmware upgrade, but I could be mistaken and it's only the newest generation. Can anyone confirm?

  3. I can hear a difference, and so can my wife, which is meaningful as she often doesn't hear other differences. I didn't want to upgrade my AVR, so I got a Pioneer BDP-320 player with 7.1 analog outputs. You can get it now for less than $200 (easily) - why not give it a try?

  4. I think you've tripped to this, but since you're using analog exterior inputs on your Denon, all the processing is taking place in the BD player so you need to make all your settings there. I have a similar setup, feeding analog in from my BD player to a Denon. It absolutely kicks ***, especially on HD audio streams.

  5. Spider - Speaker matching refers to matching the timbre of the speakers, not the impedance. The KV-3 is a good timbre match to the KG-4. I've used that combination and it worked fine. A KV-2 would also work, but the KV-3 is better.

  6. I think it's something you really just need to try out and see if you notice a difference. If you can do it with no risk (e.g. able to return), why not?

I was driving my Forte's with a Denon AVR that did about 100wpc in 2-channel mode. It sounded great. Then I put an Acurus 200x3 in to drive them (which bench tests at about 325wpc IIRC) and they indeed did "come alive." Everything, especially the bass, was just more authoritative.

  7. ...i did wonder how much better can these speakers get?

That's a question better left unasked unless you're willing to spend the rest of your life trolling garage sales and internet forums. What started with a pair of KG4s has, for me, now grown to a collection of 8 pairs of Klipsch speakers - all built before 1990. Each is terrific in its own right. For the time being, just enjoy the ones you have.

  8. I was holding a can of Watco oil in my hands at Home Depot the other day and thinking about it... but in the end, I went with the linseed oil and mineral spirits because I knew what to expect. As I understand it, though, the Watco stuff is a linseed oil base??

I believe you are correct - the MSDS for it says the following:

The following materials are non-hazardous, but are among the top five components in this product.

    Raw Linseed Oil 8001-26-1

    Resin Solution NOT AVAILABLE

    Hydrocarbon Resin 152698-66-3

The MSDS also lists mineral spirits as being present.

Here's an FAQ from a staining site specifically about Klipsch speakers: http://www.staining123.com/QALibrary.asp?pid=2&page=245

  9. Having a tall glass of bourbon and waiting until tomorrow to call Klipsch is the right way to go. I, too, bought an open-box CS700 from BB and it was complete - we checked the items against the list of items in the owner's manual before I left the store (well, it didn't have the pair of white cotton gloves but I got over that for the price I paid for it).

Hooked it up and found a problem with the Unit Code switch on the woofer module, plus it buzzed when operating, and Klipsch replaced it right away under warranty.

  10. I don't suppose there's a simple solution if your BR player is a PS3?

In the same boat as you. I opted to get a Pioneer BDP-320 - about $220 - rather than buy a new preamp at this time, plus I wanted to get something quieter than my PS3 whose fan noise is rather distracting. The 320 fit the bill for me. I don't need Netflix/Amazon/Blockbuster streaming (got the Tivo HD for that) and I have a total of 5 SACD's so I was not willing to spend the $500 on an OPPO. It's probably just my imagination but the HD audio sounds outstanding, and it seems to me it does a better job with Bluray discs than the PS3 does.
