  1. Finally some people who are finally able to stand up to all those idiots that think there is "a real benefit" gained from using "monster" cable. The only benefit gained is for the people that manufacture the cable and the hype. Yep.. Home depot carries all the speaker cable you will ever need. Bravo!
  2. Johnny dB. Not a lie, I only built the bass bins. I am not a woodworking genius but mereley attesting to the fact that the plans "work" if followed carefuly enough. A good table saw and a good rip fence for cutting the mitres is a must, glue, some screws and some caulking. I will post some pics but where do I do this???? Thanks, Snarfred
  3. A reply to your question about the plans for a Khorn. I have purchased these plans from the man in Oregon. I found them to detailed and illustrated well enough that I was able to build two bass bins in one weekend. These bins have the proper drivers from Klipsch installed therein. The units have been tested and found to be operating in the proper levels indicated by the Klipsch perameters. IF you don't fool with the measurements and you don't start ammending a little here and a little there, there is really no reason why they could not be built properly and also function properly. I've had a ton of different bass speakers and am thoroughly enthralled with the ones I built. I wonder if the "purists" are concerned with a 1/8" here and there and if that really makes a hill of beans difference. All environments dictate different listening ideals and I am sure that some speakers no matter what, ill placed, or any variety of ills can make even the greatest units sound like garbage. That's my two cents worth. And on the issue of plans legality!!!! If Paul originally sold his plans for DIY's then who is to say that the plans curently out there are not copies of those plans that I got from my next door neighbour who bought them on the "50s. That's my 2 cents worth on this building and plans issue. Thank you, and don't let someone rent space in your head.
  4. Mr P. Thanks for your response. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees, now it makes perfect sense. The stud corner will be taken apart and redone as suggested. Just another Q if you wouldn't mind. The way my system is set up, I use the Khorn bass cab. only for low freq., and use a DBX 3 way crossover. What would you reccommend as a crossover for the Khorn. Currently I have it crossed at 125db and find that if I go higher the horn starts to sound "honky". Any suggestions!!!
  5. I am wonerding if there was a way of diminishing the "booming" that is heard behind the false wall that I built in order to accomodate my Khorn. One wall is the normal wall of the room and the other is the false wall. There is a lot of "booming" when I walk around the back. Originally this wall was "hollow", then I dampened it. Maybe by over dampening the wall by placing insulation in it I actually made the wall too tight. Is there some opinion as to the effect of placing something on the surface of the wall to help diminish the "booming" that I hear from behind. BTW---- the wall is 7 feet tall by 4feet, could it be that the wall is too short on the 4 foot measure and that the sound wave roll around to the back. I hope that doesn't sound like too stupid a question! Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.
  6. Hello there: I have purchased these plans from the ebay seller. They are pretty straight forward, but unless you have had any woodworking experience, you might find it a bit of a challenge. I made two of these in one weekend. Make SURE all the joins are "SEALED" with caulking and not just glue. I used the proper Klipsch bass drivers and am absolutley thrilled do death with the. If I can be of any further help, let me know! Frans
  7. Hello, I am probably way behind in this reponse to you rgarding the "bypassing the crossover" issue. I have system that is set up using "tri-amplification". I use a DBX 234 active crossover fed from my Carver Pre-amp. I also use another looped sound processor in the system. The final output goes through the DBX xover and three outputs (hi mid low) goes to each individual amps and feeds the speakers. The beauty of this is that you can attenuate the three levels to your own requirements. Since I have a hi freq. deficiency in my hearing, I can adjust the sound to my wants & needs. Although I do not have the complete Klipschorn I do use the bass bins only. These were home made and have been tested and found to be as good as and meet the requirements of the factory units. They have the proper K33 drivers and the units are probably the best (& truest) thing in bass that I have ever heard. My mids are BOSE 802 and can handle anything that the bass doesn"t. Then I have a seperate set of tweeters that just sing out the highs. It may seem odd to some people, but this actually works quite well for the purposes intended. If I can be of any further help to you please drop me a line.
