  1. When I first got it, it sounded a little light and unfocused.I replaced the 5z3 rectifier with a rca 5u4g. I replaced the 2 6k7g with 2 nos rca 6j7g. This seemed to make a big differance.(I was lucky in that I had an assortment of tubes lying around) Focused the sound.I was happy but am never satisfied so I just received 2 TJ meshplate 2a3 tubes.(Warning---they cost 239.00US)They produce a very rich warm and clean sound.I have never tried any other set amps so I have nothing to compare it with. All I can say is for the past 3 weeks I have been walking around with a big satisfied grin.A fellow audio nut came over the other day and he said the sound is very addicting.
  2. I bought a Bez 2A3 SET amp off of Ebay and I am very happy with it.Paid 470.00 to have it delivered to my door.I did a little bit of tube rolling before I was completely satisfied but now I am in Hifi heaven. They sound great with my Cornwall 11's.Just another low priced option. Brent
  3. I have had my Cornwall 2's for about 6 months and have tried differant placements to get the best sound and image. Tonight on a hunch I placed a cd case under the back of each speaker to tilt it forward a bit and it made a large improvement. Maybe my listening position was too low and missing out on impact of high range horn.
  4. Thanks for the info. I phoned a few electronic parts suppliers in town and they dont have them--in stock anyway. I will try to find one and let you know if it works. Brent
  5. I have a pair of Cornwall 11's which I like a lot.I also have a number of differant vintage amps/preamps/integrated amps that I have tried out.I am presently useing a Marantz Esotec PM4.It sounds good, dispite peoples claims that it shouldnt.I also have a Pilot 240 integrated amp.It sounds great with 3 or 4 other speakers I have, but with the Cornwalls it sounds terrible. Not just poor or average but harsh, naked, distorted. Can someone explain to me why this amp which has a fairly good reputation and sounds fantastic with other speakers sounds terrible with my Cornwalls.
  6. I have tried my Cornwalls with a Pilot 240 integrated amp. While the mids and highs were very sweet(as in great) the lows were very unfocused. I like the focused punch I get on the lows with my ss amp.I tried my Cornwalls with a pair of ASL Wave 8 monoblocks and an old Nikko SS preamp. This combination was good but my Marantz edged them out on an a/b test. I would like to try the Wave 8's with a good tube preamp but I dont have one right now. There are so many options for preamps at differant price points I am confused and dazed.(and i dont have a little nest egg yet?
  7. Hello-A month ago I purchased a pair of Cornwall 11's.I love them.Nothing I would rather(almost nothing) do after working all day is come home and relax with good music.I have tried a few differant amp/pre-amp combinations and am presently useing a Marantz Esotec PM-4 integrated amp.I believe it pushes 30wpc in class a and 60wpc in class a/b.It is actually a very nice sounding amplifier which I dont think I have fully realized its potential because of my sources--a tweaked Thorens 160; Harman/Kardon TU 615 tuner; Sony X55ES cd player.I have a few questions: -I have them set up in a 21ft x 12ft room. One end of the room is my living room and the other is my dining room.My couch/listening position is only about 8ft from front wall(where speakers are)and 13ft from back wall. What are the ramafications of being so far from the back wall in speaker placement?or, any suggestions on maximizing speaker placement? -I am presently useing ordinary lamp cord speaker wire.Is it worthwhile investing in fancy speaker wire? -I am intrigued by the general suggestion that Cornwalls are best with tube amps, but have some tried both and prefer SS amps? Thanks Brent
