  1. Hi Meagain:

The speaker photo posted by Jacksonbart was a pair of JBL K2-S9800s to be exact. The latest model was updated with Be drivers and have added SE in the model number. They were considered to be the "best" speakers available in Japan by Stereo Sound magazine until JBL had introduced these...

They are DD66000 and was chosen as the #1 speakers in Japan for 2006. The K2-S9800SEs came second followed by B&W 800Ds...Khorns came 24th I believe... The Khorns are being offered by Yamaha in Japan.

    Hello,
Thank you for your email. It's still for sale. I'm a civilian employee for the Navy and right now I'm gone with the Naval Region Hawaii to maintain the safety and vital infrastructure that allows the Navy to operate efficiently in Hawaii. I hope that's not going to be a problem because I can still handle the transaction. I left the item along with several other items in the custody of iSold It because I wanted to sell them on eBay when I return, but something came up back home, something wrong with my mother and I decided to sell this one before I get back.
So if you are still interested let me know because we can make the transaction immediately and I will explain you how iSold It works. Regards!
  3. Thanks for saving me...from myself... I was in one of my weak moments with mimimal self control... salivating over the closed back.. imagining the pair pointing at me in my listening chair...Glad it was a scam.

Although a pair of 60th Anniversaries in my room would have looked beautiful.. maybe someday soon.

I beleive the same loser had a listing for TD-124 where I had a bid in but had the same message of contacting the seller first and would not accept bids.... It was pulled by ebay yesterday also.

  4. Hi Kudret:

Past weekend, I drug up a pair of old speaker cabinets that are about the same height as the Khorns to my upstairs listening room where the Khorns live.

The top section of Khorns with Trachorn 400, CP25, and BEC AA were detached and the woofer connection was extended to the bass bins in the corners.

The Khorn top sections were placed on top of the old speaker cabinet about 1' away and pointing to back of my head in the listening position.

My first impression of the sound was... it was awful! The upper mids and the highs were just as good but the lower mids where the woofer kicks in was howling and not smooth at all. The top sections were moved further way and closer to the bass bin in various positions... They all sucked!

The clear problem was; by removing the top section, the bass bin had open top and it seems to behave as if I had placed the bass bin in the middle of the room.

At the end, I declared defeat and decided to close the back of the bass bin as discussed in the 2-Ch forum.

The goal is to create more convicing depth in my sound stage from the Khorns. I am very happy with the rest of the Khorns performance.

  5. Jordan:

Sent you couple of emails but ... I am too trying to either build or buy a pair of 300Hz Tractrix raw wood horns for Khorns. My plan is to make a midrange horn and CP25 on top and have it stand away from the bass bin and the front wall.

If George doen't take the CNC cut pieces, I would certainly like to get them. For that matter, if George does use them, if I can get a set of template to get them made, it would be very nice.

I am also wondering...is there commecially available 300Hz Tractrix horns wood or cast aluminum other than what AL K offers (which I bought a pair).

  6. Bob:

I am trying to build a new set of Tractrix 300Hz mid horn and CP25 set up that I can place them away from the bass bins and away from the front wall. The new AA with new caps will be used and will give me a good idea how different they are if any.

    Thanks,

    Ki

PS. If anyone could point me to a use wood 300Hz Tractrix horns or equivalent commecial horns I can buy, I would appreciate it.

  7. I built these 2" 300 hz. horns using 3/8" bendable plywood. Not bad stuff, but next time I will probably laminate two sheets of 1/8" Russian Birch or 1/8" MDF. Those materials just finish better if you are going with paint.

I found a local cabinet maker who would build these horns for me. Could someone point me to the place where I can obtain a drawing for these horns?

  8. Both UPS and FedEx had changed their policy to accept boxes up to 150Lbs. So they will take the LaScalas.

I just had bad experience (agian) shipping Belle Klipsches to a gentleman in Oregon which is only ~450 miles away from Seattle via UPS. The Belle Klipsches were in "as new" conditions and packed in their original factory cartons and boxes (including the moisture absorbent packs. etc!). When the boxes got to Oregon both speakers were damaged... To make the long stroy short, UPS had denied all insurance claims due to - in their opinion - insufficient packing... go figure.

Although the LaScalas are not as big as the Belle Klipsches, unless you are 100% sure the LsScala's will survive the shipping mistreatment, I would not ship them even 100 miles...

  9. In continuation of the theme "cheap," I've been itching to obtain a pair of inexpensive wood Tractrix horn for my extra K55-Vs. My Khorns have Al sourced Trachorn 400s but I'd like to have a separat pair of wood horns to go with my spare Beyma CP-25s and BEC AA crossovers.

Please let me know if you know where I can get a "cheap" pair of Tractrix used horm for K55-Vs.

    Thanks,

    Ki

  10. Hi Bob:

I have a set of your early rebuild factory AA with new GE oil caps that are in my Khorns, and a set of your new AAs with modern caps. I have not tried the new modern capped AAs yet (too lazy...).

You said both Oil Cap AA and modern cap AA do sound the same. Have you heard from other customers if they hear the same?

  11. Very good photos... you must talked your wife into taking them since I see both of your hands soldering.[;)]

BTW, what would be the price of a properly working pair?

I know it would be more personal taste but how would they sound in comparison to modern tweeters such as CP25s?
