  1. hehehe... my amp (tube) is not dead.... it have some hum and buzzzz..... not so much but at 2 meter i can hear.... the hum and buzzz... when i hear music is not a problem, but is there. i wait my scott 222C to hear if it is more quiet, but i think some noise on tube amp are normal... Why... because the circuit is so simple renspect modern solid strate amp... no filter (like we know today and little feedback. at end .... some capacitor some resistor .... some tubes.... the less is the best... yes but if the less let it pass all the best of music i think let it pass also the worst of music... for exemple i love The album Dire Strits (the first) and there is so much noise in the start of the album.... and much more with tube amp, it seem microfonic noise, but even if with tube amp is much more, i love hear with tube. it sound beautiful. Audiofile people sometime hear only 1 kind of noise, the noise that come from amp when music is starting or end or is low level... why i must put my ear 1 feet from tweeter to hear noise??? yes there is noise. THERE IS but if i sit and hear the music that noise is not problem and music is much better than ss amp. also with chinese tube amp WITH chinese tube inside!~!! WHY??? until some month ago i thought ss amp was the best specially new model of amp. i' m electronics ( computer and microprocessor) and i thought that more you work on signal and best is result.... i was WRONG no operational amp no work on signal can make good signal from worse source.... i can wor and rework on signal but every stage the signal will be flat more than before, i will not have Hummmmmmm Buzzzzzzzz and other but i cut also some part of signal that was that one that make me feel so happy when I hear muwsic with my Chinese tube amp and tomorrow (i hope with help of craig also wit my scott 222C) And in the end the first are speakers!!!! for me the RF7 are the best speakers i Heard until now, i love them and i think i could live without some beautiful amp but NOT without my RF7 giribaldo
  2. hi, I can't understand why if a capacitor fail speakers can damage... if it was a transistor amp without some protection at output if e transistor fail probably dc current flow in to it and in to speakers and can damage the speakers ( but i know some ss amplifier have a protection for this). But a tube amp have a transformer if dc flow in the primary stage can't pass in output stage, and also if pass to output stage the 0 i think is to ground, why current must flow in to the speakers that have higher resistance and not short to ground? giribaldo
  3. thanks Craig, when I will have the amp i will study the circuit (that became with the amp) and for sure before to touch something i will ask to you. the good is that i can read a schema, the bad is that i studied electronic and microproocessor never gone around tubes or so high voltage... i know the danger so i will pay a lot attention. i take a look at your site i like, if i will need some components you will ship to Italy? giribaldo
  4. thanks all, especially to craig that offered to help me to rebuilt the amp at telephone or e mail. thanks also to Ryan that clearly explained to me how bias work in this amp. I don't want this treadh become so hot and i don't like offence ... return to the 222-c Wowwwwwwww!! i thougt it was all more simple :-) i think i will need to study the shema very well. I don't have the amp here again, but if i understood i could use also not matched tubes (but if are mathced is better) and with the DC Balance pots (1 for channel) i balance the current between the pair of tubes. buth this without votmeter or ammeter? only with my... ears... :-) giribaldo
  5. Hi all, yesterday i bought my first Scott Amp , is a 222-C I will receive in 1 week (I hope) the seller sayd that it work and ready to use the only problem is: "The loudness control needs a squirt of cleaner, it's a little scratchy but only when turning" now i woul like some advice by people that know this amp, and what is better do before use it normally every day. Pheraps i think this model of 222 have a fixed bias without the possible to manually bias (i' m not sure but in schematic i can't see pot or trim to vary the bias) What this mean? is less better than 222-d that have bias trim? what i must do if there isn't bias trim when i change tubes? this mean that i can use only closed matched quad of tubes? and if i will not use matched quad what will happen? i can connect safely to my RF-7 or if something is wrong also RF-7 will suffer? (i would not burn My beautiful RF-7 ) sorry for so much question, but is my first scott amp and also my first wintage tube amp... thanks all Giribaldo
  6. it's getting late here :-( i will come tomorrow so you will decide between the beef or the wine... (i reccomend the wine) :-) Giribaldo
  7. i will come to chicago so i will be your Italian beef in chicago directely from Ytaly hahahah!! :0
  8. I want change some barolo wine with a scott amplifier :-) let me know what your desire, i pull out the best from producer and give to you in change of the scott... heheheheh!!
  9. hi, in Italy klipsch is not so popular, and i think it will not be for a long time, first because of the price that is oltrageus (for one RF-7 a shop asked 2300 euro!!!) more than 2 time US price. second there are few shop that sell klipsch. for your sistem, i' m not so expert, but i think to use another tweeter, together with your klipsch will not be so good idea, i think they will sound different and you will ear this difference... if you want more yo can go onb RF-5 or RF-7, the tweeter of RF-7 for me is a lot more better also than RF-5.
  10. Hi dodudou you french, i'm from italy i live in Cuneo, where do you live ? what klipsch you have ? i have 2 RF-7 front 2 RF-5 surround RC-7 center
  11. you don't need jumper if you biwire! if you don't biwire you can use original jumper if don't have i will use same of speakers cable. ps i biwire RF-7 and i'm very happy with 4X2,5 mm :-) giribaldo
  12. also for the speakers would be no problem to connect the two ++ tap?
  13. I mean a resistor across the 0 and 8 ohm tap when it is not connected at speakers. for example on two banana plug and i remove when connect speakers. Giribaldo
  14. Hi, I post a topic some day ago, i was trying connection on 4 ohm and 8 ohm tap tube amplifier of my RF-7... Today... my sister came to my home and with my wife decided to try as good sound last cd i buyed... the problem is that the banana plug was disconnected from amp, and my wife connected the left speaker betwen 8 and 4 ohm tap and the right correctly.. i come home and asked whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!! she done so terrible thing.......... she sayd that only used 15 minutes... :-( Now i connected right way and tried and all seem work properly, can be some damage for this working operation for amp or speakers? and for the future if i live the amp disconnected from speaker i can use a resistor (and what size/value better) betwen 0 and 8 ohm tap to avoid damage if someone power up the amp without speaker connected? Giribaldo
  15. hahaha this was new to me... in canada ok undervalue because not stranger !?!? and taiwan not because stranger... correct me.. but canada is a part or a state of United States Of America? i'm joking, but also for me that live in Italy is not so good to see 99,999 % of auction US BIDDERS ONLY. if you see in germany for example 60% of auctions are worldwide... Why?? pheraps if something really interest me i ask to seller if he ship to italy and lot of seller agree. Only must to be clear before on this things.
