Can a system like this: "Heresy I Subwoofer with Adire Shiva MK IV Altec 511B instead of the K700 Replace the 2uF cap (in the squawker cross) with a 19uF" give the sound of the Khorn (obviously with less SPL)? Have someone tried this? I need your opinion. Thanks.

DRD 2A3 now sound good with a 1 Kohm potentiometer. It's incredible like these amps are sensitive to the impedance presents in their inputs.

I use the passive bi-amp (with only a potentiometer for the bass) and this is the best sound that I have heard from my Khorn but the balance depends greatly by the value of the pot. With the GTA SE-300B on mid-high and the CJ MV-50 on the bass the perfect value is 220Kohm but for the new DRD 2A3(extreme sensitive in this parameter)I haven't found the exact value (now I use a 10 K potentiometer but tomorrow I receive other values: 1 Kohm and 500 ohm). Changing these value transforms TOTALLY the sound of the speaker like HEAVEN or like HELL.

You know I have the GTA SE-300B too. I think those are wonderful. Do you can tell me how can I modify the amps? Thanks.

Hi. I'm lorcoll. I have bought ALK directly from Al (with shipping costs and custom it's about 500 euro). I don't like the sound in my system (High and mid-high too bright) and I know it's incredible but I prefer my AK2. I want start to upgrade my xover. I have bought the DRD 2A3 but it isn't better than my GTA SE 300B in anyway. I want recover part of expenses (don't forget the plus 26% in Italy). For the DRD 2A3 I have paid 1700 $ + 354 euro (custom) + 90 euro for Sovtek 2A3 (I have put them on ebay at 1350 euro and them are new - two weeks ago). I think those are extremely good prices for Europe.

Can anyone tell me the kind of caps used in the AK2 network (1980)? Polypropylene I think (not oil). What caps can I use in the crossover for a warm sound (I don't want the so-called neutral sound)? I have tried Hovland but the tweeter is bright.

Daddy, many people have told me very good things about the AVVT 2A3 Mesh tube but others think that at least part of the AVVT mesh plate's exciting sound and big soundstage derives from the tube's microphonics. It isn't a problem for me (I want only a good sound) but I don't want to have excessive problems with room interaction. Can others members tell us more about these tubes?

Thank you Mobile for the detailed infos. My CJ PV-8 has an output impedance of 200 ohm and that is a low value (good match with the DRD?). If I have understand right do you think the TJ 300B/2.5v is better than the new TJ 2A3 for this amp? If it's so, I have to expect for others opinions before I buy another tube. I'll use the DRD 2A3 alone and then coupled with the CJ MV-50 (for now this last solution is far better than others on my Khorns and 300B). I think I'll write my first impression in this forum next week.

Hi Cut, I work in a great Bank and now I live in the south (Salerno)but tomorrow..... My Gta are totally quiet and I hope my new amps are like you say. I have ordered the Sovtek 2A3 (for now) but I love the Fullmusic 300B mesh plate that I use. Do you think I have to change the Sovtek for the TJ 2A3? Many peolpe think TJ is better than Sovtek. I can buy the TJ mesh for about 155 euro (I think it's a good price). Ciao.

My Welborne DRD 2A3 will comes from USA to Italy on monday. The amps will stay with me only if them sound better than my GTA SE 300B. What do you think about? I would know the exact cap that I have to change (I can see the value and Volts myself). I think that the coupling cap is the first on the left (great) and it's Sprague Vitamin Q (1 Microfarad). I'm starting to built cabinets of Cornwall but I would use this parts (90% from my Heresy): K-77M K-55M WITH ALTEC 511B K-22 (Only at the first time - After I need to buy K-33) TYPE B network modified in TYPE A (The only change is the 4 microF in the K-55, I must use a 13 Mf cap). I'm anxious to know how it sounds with 311 horn and 290 driver. Q-Man, let us know if you would try this scheme.

I would return to speak about the sound of the 290/311 combo with a stock Klipsch network or ALK. I think many people would upgrade their Khorn or other Heritage model and I'm confused for the best choice: Al prefers 511(811) with K-55, Q-man prefers 290/311 combo, etc... I have recently bought the Altec 511B for my Khorns and I don't know if it is superior to K-400 on all spectrum: I think I lose something, the voices are good but not like the k-400 in a lot of cases and I hear more boom than the k-400. But I cannot say that 511 is worse respect the k-400. Can others contribute to say what mod is objectively (and not only the personal taste) better for mids in the Khorns or La Scala? In theory the combo 311/290 can be the best but it's a good mod if it isn't necessary to do a hard modify in the network. Thanks and excuse me for my english (it's difficult translate all my thought).

This should be the stock AK-4 network.

I have a good corners for my khorns and I am very glad with MV-50 for the bass, but the mid of GTA is of another planet.

Hi Mobile, I have the GTA Monoblocks with Sovtek 6SL7GT, Ruby 5AR4-C and TJ Mesh Fullmusic 300B/n. I love the mid of GTA (incredible) but I use a passive biamp (with only a potentiometer to attenuate the bass from Conrad Johnson MV-50). I don't know if the bass I have is the max for my Khorn and I would drive my speaker with one amp but I want the mid of GTA and the bass of MV-50. Do you think the way is only with a good sub? Thanks.
