  1. Yeah, an SVS, while definitly choice, would A.) be a wee bit out of my price range, and B.) be a little bit much for what I'm looking for currently. When I put together a little HT system later this year, THEN I'll start looking to SVS for their subs. I'd rather not drop upwards of $800 on a subwoofer that is 'only' going to be used with my computer and occasionally hauled to parties. Plus if I went all out right now and bought a SVS PC-Ultra (what I'm looking at for my HT setup) and was coerced into bringing it to a party with me to help with the oof of sound there, I'd sit next to it with a shotgun making sure no one bumped into it, spilled something on it or looked at it the wrong way for the remainder of the shindig. I'm just looking for something no more than $600 (TOPS) that will work optimally with DVD playback and games. Music sounds good already on my 5.1's and is a tertiary concern AT BEST. Concise hits and a nice low end are my main goals. The RW-12, regardless of where I purchase it from is looking like my best bet right now. Though I'm still open to other similar subs of other brands. Oh, any thoughts on the RSW-12 as an option to compliment the Ultra Sub? *sigh* I should probably move this topic into the Powered Subwoofers section.
  2. Good! Oy. I was gettin' worried about that. I managed to find some other threads where people talk about putting different subs into this config as a partner to the Ultra 5.1 sub, but people are also talking about underpowering and overpowering things, etc. I have to admit I'm a little lost when it comes to knowing what sub would be a good partner to this one. I'm more than willing to drop as much as $500-570ish on a pretty nice one. And yeah, I know I could buy a whole other set of 5.1's and have money to spare with that price, but I hate bottoming out subs in front of people and well, the Ultra sub has kinda spoiled me. No HT subs in my ownership to make it jealous, so I wouldn't know better. Also, I don't want to snag some sub that for whatever reason hurts my Ultra sub. Any recommendations for a sub to go with it? Any recommendations for good places online to look? Is there a specific connection on a specific cord I will need? I've been wanting to take my speakers to a friend's house and use it for their party. But I want a little more bass first. Yeh, I'm immature, sue me.
  3. Just curious since the SWS is apparently going to disappear completely soon. The SWS linking feature was a big part of my purchase decision on the Ultra 5.1's and now even if I managed to scrounge up some SWS's I'd essentially be SOL if I needed a replacement or something. So is that SWS link on the back of my Ultra sub pretty much useless now or could I attach a different Klipsch sub to it or...? My hope is that Klipsch will, of course, put out a 'revised' version of the SWS or something similar to attach to this port, but we'll just have to see. Thoughts from anyone (including, 'Haha, sucker!)' are still obviously appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Queens of the Stone Age 'Song for the Dead' from the 'Songs for the Deaf' CD and 'Quick and to the Pointless' from the 'Rated R' CD. One has a fun lead in that get's progressively louder then BOOM! The speakers get to stretch their legs a little and it scares the pants off of people listening, especially those who haven't heard the songs before. Otherwise, I suppose I prefer soundtrack CD's for showin' off my Ultra's anyway. The one's for '******', 'Aliens' and 'Fight Club' work particularly well. I'm sure they're not the tour de force songs that hit all the highs, mids and lows big-time like some of the songs other people are listing here, but they're fun to hear and they're more than just bass!
  5. Oh hell yeah. I totally agree that this is one of the few horror/thriller movies to actually do what they're supposed to (y'know... SCARE the audience instead of make them laugh) in a long long time. I own '28 Days Later', 'Trainspotting' and 'The Beach', all excellent flicks. Boyle is definitely a badass director. The Selena hesitation scene was very good, yeh, but the whole mansion sequence (and that sequence in the field near the ruin things) kind of detracted from the feel of the first half of the movie, I thought. But that's just me. I too dare someone to name a better horror movie in recent history. Most have been mindless gore-fests which, while fun to watch, just end up being too immature and not scary enough. Sure, the whole tecnique of 'quiet, quiet, quiet, BOOOM/SCARY!' is fun, but it can get long in the tooth after a while. '28 Days Later' had that but also had the ever-looming dread of a whole country abandoned and instead filled with people out to do nothing more than pummel the bajeezus out of you. Now there's the teaser trailer and the full theatrical trailer out for 'Dawn of the Dead', and ever since this month got underway there have been at least 6 different TV spots I've seen as well. One thing I've noticed is that these zombies seem to be a lot faster than your standard Romero-esque lumbering ones. Some scenes you see them all sidling towards the mall in the typically slow zombie fashion, but in others you see them running as they chase people and that one in the parking garage is actually holding on to a series of pipes on the ceiling while it's feet dangle, kind of looking monkey-esque and then leaps off the pipes onto an unsuspecting vicitm. One of the big things I really liked about '28 Days Later' was the speed with which the 'infected' attacked. Hopefully this will carry over well in 'Dawn' with these seemingly on-again, off-again speed-demon zombies. Think they'll give a little more info on the origin of the zombie threat or just leave us with the weird 'probe we sent to Venus came back and messed people up' hypothesis from 'Night of the Living Dead'? "They're dead... they're.. all messed up." - Classic!
  6. It's not a traditional 'Remake' folks. Read further into the site (well, if you have the time and interest) they're not fully out to remake it because those who worked on the film didn't think a remake was necessary. They thought 'Dawn of the Dead' was already and excellent movie. Btw, Everett, WI? Gotta love fake towns. C'mon Hollywood, just come to Wisconsin and lemme be a friggin' zombie extra! Don't make up a fake (and HUGE according to the trailer with the dropping population number) city when the real thing would do just fine! We DO have malls. *phew* Ahem. Anyway. I thought '28 Days Later' was pretty damn good considering the trouble the people who made it had to go through to get the movie to look remotely like they originally wanted. Stupid small budgets. Oh well. My big BIG gripe with the movie is that the trailers spoke of 'The best zombie movie ever' and all that crap. There were NO zombies! Rage... dreh. In my opinion, the movie did fine (albeit shallow acting) until the absolutely horrendous 3rd act with the mansion. Anyone here watch the DVD extras? I wish they would have gone ahead and done the 3rd alternate ending instead of the lame, diet-alternate ending they did for the (incredibly ill-advised) theatrical re-release. Blegh. Anyway, I'm friggin' pumped for the new 'Dawn of the Dead' movie. I'm just glad they didn't try to do a re-invisioning of 'Day of the Dead' because I really wasn't a fan of that one. Even if it IS Romero's favorite of the series.
  7. Thanks 007. The info on that thread helped a lot. Now I'm off to jabber there. Again, danke.
  8. I know I saw a discussion on this matter somewhere else on the forums, but I can't for the life of me find it again. That'll teach me to go forum hopping at 4 in the morning. Moving on... Aside from trying to decide on a sound card to get for Christmas, I am also trying to decide upon a decoder for it so that I may have my DVD parties flooded with nice digital sound. I just replaced my Z-680's with PM 5.1 Ultra's and my current choice for a sound card is the Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. In case you all can't figure out for yourselves, I made my PC with the goal of regular gaming in mind, but I am also host to many all-night movie marathons (the 24" monitor begs for such things ). I know pretty near nothing about decoders or even optimal cabling that would be needed when I get one. I was dead set on the Klipsch DD-5.1 until I saw Creative's new foray into the decoder market on their site. It's cheaper (lesser sound/build quality?) and has more current modes on it. (Pro Logic II, etc.) Time's getting short and I'd really like to know which of these decoders would be a good choice, but there are absolutely NO reviews of the new Creative machine on the 'net so I can't compare the two! I may be in the wrong forums for asking such a question as many of you may be um... just a little biased towards Klipsch, but I'll take my chances. I'll at least know I'm getting opinions from people who know more about digital sound than I ever will. So, in summation: Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra's + Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro + (insert decoder type here) Also, please don't say, "Well, just buy a professional reciever or decoder that costs $5000" or something, I like nice things, but I'm not quite enough of an audiophile to be willing to go that far into my pocketbook for such a tiny thing. Thanks for reading guys! (and girls)
