  1. DrWho and kramskoi already said it. For $15k you could equal those results with standard equipment or a nice IB. All 3 would probably take up similar real estate.

But after a time you really are just adding to the ego (which I don't have a problem with). Some others would spend $20k+ on just making their HT room look like the Starship Enterprise.

    To each his own.

But partially back to the original topic, I'm still curious how the differences would sound between the Klipsch option I mentioned and the Ananda. Both equal in price ($4k). I know tuning would be a factor, but I'm also curious what the output comparison would look like.

  2. drwho and many stated such that many cds do infact have alot of sub 32 hertz material.

A friend of mine who is a retired audio engineer would beg to differ .

That's an odd statement. How can he differ with fact? I own CD's with material below 32 Hz. It's not something to disagree with. It's just fact.

  3. sunburn:

You're correct. For me, the reason I have a sub that can outclass the rest of my system is because of HT factors that can require enormous (but still balanced) energy in the subsonics. I would assume the majority of non-audiophile sub owners have subs that would not stand up to THX requirements (just for example) while the rest of their system may be capable of such. It's not about pure output, but extension and low THD.

For music I would not need nearly as large a sub, or depending on my mains no sub at all.

  4. If he refunded you with the "refund" option button then there's nothing he can do to ge tthe money back...can't even file a claim. If he refunded you with the "send money" option button then he is able to file a claim. He won't get his money back from you but there's a possibility if you don't clearly explain yourself that your account may not stay in pristine standing.

Now, if he sent these funds to you via credit card and wants to file a chargeback...well, the credit card company will probably see it his way and your PayPal account could go negative and you'll owe that amount to PayPal. Not PayPal's fault, they're just stuck in the middle and certainly won't take the hit from the credit card company on your behalf...as well they don't deserve to. They'll fight for you but shouldn't take the fall for you.

In any case, sounds like it'll all be fine since both parties appear to be honest people. That's what makes PayPal great. There's only a sliver of people who have problems there...but experience shows that they're usually the ones who don't read the user agreements when using online services (especially financial ones! sheesh!), then complain when something happens that the user agreement states was going to happen. Nobody to blame...

  5. The response was pretty harsh. I don't think he meant ill.

In any case, in order to create an enclosure for a certain driver you need to know a set of parameters about the driver called Thiel Small (T/S). These are a set of 12 or more computations that tell of the drivers displacement, linear excursion, resonance, DC resistance, thermal capacity, etc. With these computations you design an enclosure based on your preferences for frequency response, output, room characteristics, etc.

So as you can see, it's a little more complicated than a simple answer can provide. And in the case of the LF-10 driver, if the T/S paramenters aren't public knowledge then you'll have to reverse engineer these figures in a lab (not likely).

But to attempt to answer your question without these, in general if you increase the size of an enclosure it will yield a flatter response for longer throughout the bandwidth, most notably in the lower octaves. Vents act in a similar way as passive radiators (PR's) of which you sub has 2. It seems a redesign of the LF-10 wouldn't yield spectacularly greater output as it's a well designed sub, however you could expect better lower end response with a larger enclosure, keeping the PR's. Hope that makes sense.

  6. The line is somewhat confusing at a passing glance, but I think the issue is simply the release dates of the different lines and the continuation of older lines with the new.

At any rate, to be clear the only sub in the current line with solid output in the 20-40 Hz range is the KW-120. If your criteria is 25 or 30-40 Hz then several options become available in the Klipsch family...namely the RSW-15, RSW-12 and RT-12D. All have very good SQ and output, but the "lowest octave of primary concern" is not what they're designed for.

Unfortunately, unless you get a good deal somewhere I don't think any of these are <$1k. For such requirements I think your only options are probably SVS or DIY. SVS is a bit of a four letter word around here so don't go yelling it. You'll get a myriad of opinions but in general it'll get you the same or similar SQ, lower FR and a cheaper price.

  7. REALLY...glad to see SVS has 'upgraded' their website to include a forum board for discussion at this time, sorry, thought SVS was killed off of this forum awhile back when it was "disclosed" this was actually a Klipsch Forum owned by the Owners of Klipsch...Good to see TomV and Co. of SVS Ownership Group are still cheap with no forum and use the KLIPSCH Forum and others for their product, but RICH in the process.....YOU GO GIRLS.....[;)]

Aww, sounds like somebody doesn't believe in their own equipment.

Sorry, but if this forum was restricted to Klipsch equipment only it would be endless threads like "My sub-12 beats your sub-12."

  8. Is the $850 sub new?

Between the 2, I'd go with the PB-12+2; smoother, digs deeper, etc. But for $850 I'd grab the RSW-15 before someone else gets to it.

  9. Actually I've had paypal pull my money back once I started the transfer to my account. The money is not really safe until you get it in your account and withdraw it.

Actually, it's still not safe even then. If you can't show that you shipped the item with tracking then your PayPal account could go negative. Until you resolve the negative balance, your PayPal account could go into collections just like any other debt such as you car or mortgage. Unfortunately you're ultimately responsible for the item reaching the buyer and PayPal won't take the hit for you. If they didn they'd be out of business within the week.

Selling via Ebay and PayPal is a serious matter. If you're going to sell something on Ebay, be fully prepared to lose that money just as a physical store is fully prepared to lose some inventory to risk (theft, fraud, etc).

Not to be a stick in the mud.

  10. The only reason the money may be debited from your PayPal account is due to a complaint by the buyer or a claim of unauthorized use. The buyer complaint is easily remedied by providing proof of shipment via tracking. A chargeback or claim of fraudulent use, however, is a different matter entirely. These are credit card or bank account fraud issues (from the buyer). PayPal will dispute these claims for you, however you're not guaranteed to win the claim.

If you're an honest seller (now listen carefully to these next words) and you know well how to sell on Ebay and PayPal (don't take that statement lightly...most likely you fit this category even if you've sold many items before) then you'll be just fine. From this discussion so far it's clear nobody yet knows how to protect themselves. No offense. I just have yet to see a situation where the complaining party wasn't at fault for the issue themselves, minus a clearly fraudulent situation of course.

That's the seldom but unfortunate nature of being a merchant in any business...even on Ebay.

  11. Recently both the TV and receiver pooped out. The TV just refuses to turn on (it clicks, but no power) and the receiver does something similar. No power...however just before it went out I did see a tiny little blue spark while looking through the top vents.

A friend of mine said that it might be the power supplies damaged in both items due to the current fluctuation caused by the sub during operation. Admittedly, I will notice a very slight decrease in light levels throughout the house when very loud transients pass through.

Does this sound like a plausible theory? Do I need a power conditioner?

  12. Here is what I have been looking at:

    Paradigm Servo-15 / VELODYNE DLS 5000R / Velodyne SPL-1500/ Velodyne Servo GHS 15 /18 / Defintive Technology PF18TLor pf 15/ Sunfire True Subwoofer / Sunfire Dominator D-12 / klipsch rw15 /rw12

I'm looking for a sub in the $1600 or lower range that is going to be able to keep up with my KLF 20's as I am running about 250 watts to them and I do play them loud . Also at a later time I will be adding another sub if needed.

WIth that kind of dedication to your sound and video system, I would shy away from the RSW's unless you get multiples. I would also shy away a bit from the Sunfires; they're great subs but their primarily for space saving. Add some enclosure space and you'll gain some output at the same time saving money. I didn't hear that you had a space problem.

For that price, until the new Klipsch line comes out, I'd look at the Velodynes, Paradigms and SVS's.

  13. It's absolutely a sweet deal. The midbase headroom has been improved but not at the expense of the existing subsonic volume. A little smoother overall.

I was kind of waiting for someone else to chime in regarding the audible difference.

  14. Unbelievable video. Maybe at a certain point instead of making the bigest monster of a 12 you can.....just get 2 subs. [;)]

I remember the feel of 8 W7's in a Navigator. Eight of these would crush my skull.

  15. I am running the following setup:

    Mains KSF-10.5

    Surrounds KSF-8.5

    Sub KSW-12

    Center KSC-5

    Yamaha 5860 sub

I need some advice on setting this up. I using the sub out (line level jacks) on the receiver and using a Y-splitter into the back of the sub. Currently I have the fronts and the surrounds configured as Large and crossover frequency at 80Hz. Any suggestions? Should I change the crossover frequency and/or set some of the speakers to small?

    Thanks! :)

Are you using this setup for mainly HT? If so then set all of your speakers to small. Let the sub handle 80 and below.

  16. Thanks for the comments ,

If you couldn't tell , I have an obsession with the Velodyne DD 1812 . Even more so now since I allmost got my hands on one last month . I really should have stepped up to the plate on that one . The only thing that's going to cure my obsession is to get one . If it doesn't work out I don't think I would lose too much if any money selling it off .

I am very happy with the DD 18 . Very smooth , high quality bass . My next sub upgrade will be in the form of a THX Ultra 2 processor . Is it lacking in the 40-80Hz range ? Certainly not , but the DD 1812 is in my head , and your not going to get the snap from an 18" driver that you would from a 12" driver of equal quality .

Why such an obsession with the 1812? No offense, but you could easily outdo it for a fraction of the $15,000 asking price. I guess if you have $10,000 mains, $8000 separates and $20,000 amps then it might fit the bill. 15k is way beyond diminished returns. For that it better be able to split my house in two, make me a drink and provide warm company on a cold night.

  17. By the way, Mr. "Dr. Who,"<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

The world would be better without the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />US?????

Who but the US would stand up to Eastern Bloc Communism and oppression, would kick Saddam butt and his army out of Kuwait, would protect Muslims by leading the way against Slobodan Milosevic? Without the persuasion of the US, the terrorists of the world would soon gain a powerful foothold. Unfortunately, the passive attitudes of the EU, Canada and other modern countries would let the fires build until they exploded.

Remember these facts as well Dr. Who. The US gives over $30 billion in foreign aid per year, more than twice the amount of any other country in the world. I doubt you can comprehend a number like that. You know what that means? Many 3rd world nations would disintegrate and the poor people would be dying by the hundreds of thousands if not for us. And this only represents cash. It doesnt represent the military protection, physical assistance, and any other welfare aspect of giving.

My grandfather and his fellows paid a price youll never understand or fully appreciate. For the US to fail itll have to do so over my dead body. Our soldiers never asked for thanks, so none are necessary Dr. Who. Go back to enjoying your latte and remember why you have everything you do.

Do hear that you little ignorant brain washed man, huh.

    Little ignorant brain washed man?

It's a good thing you're in Canada. The most useless country I can think of. Hailing from a people where the women are women and so are the men.

    LOL

Your views if these are yours are hilarious. You sound like Batman and Robin out of a comic book.

You have a thick fog covering your mind, and do not even see through all the political hoopla and BS. sad

FYI Milosevic was defending Serbia against the prepaid terrorists passing as victims killing Serbs.Serbs counterattacked and the terrorist gypsie cowards funded by western economies started to scream and shout genocide.

Milosevic will be a hero to his countrymen, and had to be portrayed as monster to justify the agression of cowards on his country(Serbia).Yes COWARDS

Also for your information lacking mind. During WW2 Croats butchered over a million Serbs, the same Croats who were collaborating with HITLER.Serbs fought against Nazis and Hitler loosing a large part of thier population. Do hear that you little ignorant brain washed man, huh.

The "poor" people who you are defending are the same nation who sells their dauthers and mothers into prostitution. Do you even now that? I guess not,CNN told you most of what you SHOULD know.

Stop drinking from the CNN knowledge dispensing machine and read some books, some facts others than the ones presented to brainwash you. They love sheeps like you,so easy to program.

The worst thing is a tunnel vision aflicted person spreading "truths" that are so biased its stinks like rotten meat.

It sounds like you and Michael Moore would make great flat mates. Strangely, I agree that CNN gives the slow minded the news they want them to hear. Unfortunately, however, you sound like you're swayed just as easily but by different media. Liberalism is a disease and me thinks you've caught it.
