  1. I'm interested in your academy for my HT to match Quartets. Are you the original owner? Where would you be shipping them from? I'm in the Detroit area.
  2. Thanks for the responses - I realize the resistance via DVM wasn't an accurate measure of the impedance, but thought it would generate a closer value... This weekend I replaced very old 16ga wires with new 14 ga with banana plug terminals to eliminate them as the possible source of the issue. The HK still cuts out. Time to take it in before the warranty expires!
  3. I'm trying to diagnose an issue with my HK AVR520 - it randomly shuts down (self-protect mode, I think) after 15- 60 minutes of use. When re-powered on it runs for hours, no problem. It happens about 75% of the time I use the reciever. I measured the resistance of the speakers to estimate the impedance and was surprised the value was only 3.7 ohms. I also checked my newer RS3-II's and they were also 3.7 ohms. Both manuals state 8 Ohm nominal impedance. Of course the HK manual states 8 ohm impendence is required. Any ideas other than taking the HK to the repair center (HK's recomendation)?
  4. I was just in the same connundrum (sp?) and ordered the 20-39PCi from SVS. I'll let you know how I like it if you can wait. Hopefully it won't be on backorder - no shipment promise yet. I based my decision on threads from this forum since you can't easily demo one of these bad boy tubes.
  5. I'm shopping for a sub to complete my HT and was looking for experience or advice in choosing between the RSW10 or the SVS 20-39 PCi. Budget is in the $500-$600. I'm looking for the added BASS dimension for DVDs as well as more bass for music listening to augment the Quartet's - need some punch. I've gathered from various forums these are top choices for Bass/$. I realize this has probably been asked/answered, but a search didn't find prior thread.
  6. Thanks for the reply - I've seen other postings with regard to HT and the classic speaker lines - recommending to get "more-of" which I'd consider. However, floorspace is at a premium due to rug rats/legos/building blocks etc. Also, I've got built in speaker shelves that would hold the surrounds or bookshelf if small enough... As for the JBL center w/Quartets - not thrilled with results. The JBL sounds "flat" to me in the mid range. Rather like the TV speakers...eventually I'll probably upgrade and go Klipsch there also. Just for grins I hooked up some Bose 101's that I got with the house on the existing shelves to experience the surround effect and it got me hooked!
  7. I have a pair of Quartet's that I'm very happy with and want to expand to 5.1 HT. I purchased a Harmon Kardon AVR520 and JBL Center Channel HT4H (don't scold, I was told by audiophile friend it was a good match and the price was good) in the last year...What subwoofer and surrounds would complete this set? The room is a carpeted 22x22 with 35ft ceiling and open to rest of house on one side (wood floors elsewhere - very "alive"). I found some RS3II's "new" on ebay that looked like might do the trick - except sensitivity is much lower at 95 dB vs Quartet's of 97.5 dB. My HK is capable of compensating....is this a close match?
