  1. No, not suggesting to go out and get a 13em7 amp. Just saying that there are tube amps that that are dead quiet in speakers as efficient as the LaScalas or Khorns. Before I bought the em7, I doubted those amps existed based on my previous experience. Sorry to offend...
  2. I hardly ever post to this forum but I happened to see your thread and decided to add my perspective. I have LaScalas and struggled for years with varying degrees of hum from a bevy of tube amps...several 2A3 and 300B SET amps, a 6L6 SE amp, some pushpull pentode offerings. It always bothered me, but I figured it was the price you pay with tubes. Two years ago I bought a Music Reference 13em7 amp and it truly is "dead quiet" with the LaScalas...ear right up to the speaker and all is silent at idle. I use a passive pre with the MR amp because my attempt to find a quiet tube preamp has been less successful. I've tried pres from Wright, Fi, Dodd, Hagerman, Mapletree...all introduced some degree of hum as you turned up the volume. Some (the Fi and the Dodd) were worse than others in that regard. I love the sound of an active tube pre, but I'm still looking for one that matches the MR amp for a noise-free, black background.
  3. Hello all, I'm a Klipsch Forum newbie, and have some questions regarding the Type A crossover... I recently purchased a pair of LaScalas at a garage sale, 1982 models with Type AL crossovers, and I want to replace those with the Type A crossover. I don't have the time to build the crossovers myself, so was wandering if anyone out there offered custom built Type A crossovers as drop-in replacements... I'm using the speakers with a Jeff Korneff SE amp that uses 6L6G tubes in triode mode, for a whopping 2.8 watts. Sounds glorious, but think it could be that much better with the Type A crossovers in there. Any info or thoughts would be much appreciated! A.
