  1. I checked a few more things last night. With just the sub playing and the setting to MAX after a few minutes the sub got warm and shut down. I switched it off and after 5 minutes or so it came back on with the same low volume problem. I'm going to open it up today and take a look.
  2. I have Promedia 2.1 for my computer. The other day i noticed very low sub output. I adjusted the knob on the controller to MAX and still it is way below what it used to be . I've checked all the outside wire connections. Any idea what the problem might be? Dan
  3. I would think the strange sound would come from the center being 8ft high while the mains are 3ft high.
  4. not really sure yet but I'd like to get some ideas of the cost
  5. I have a sub in the system. Is there a 10" that would be more suitable?
  6. I'm thinking of building a pair of small speakers to use as my mains consisting of Heresy parts. I was listening to my system tonight and one of my mains made a very distorted noise while playing Steely Dan. I don't think I hurt it but at the levels I listen to, I think I need to look for other speakers for mains. I have limited space in my room so I was thinking of using KV-55 for mids and Crites CT-125 for tweets. My question is, Is there a 10" woofer that will be as close as possible to the Heresy 12" woofer? Perhaps the Alpha-10? My cabs will not be as wide as regular Heresys.
  7. Here is the new crossover. Testing today.
  8. so for the 1st order, would the autoformer take the place of the L-1 coil or do I need to add that?
  9. wouldn't that be a 16ohm mid on tap #2 @ 8x = 128ohm mid? The woofers wired parallel and double surface area should be 91.5 + 3db +3db = 97.5db Wouldn't going 2nd order on at least the high pass protect the tweeter better at high volume levels?
  10. Well this took a while to get all the parts and pieces together but here it is. The drivers I ended up with are a T-35 tweeter Atlas PD-4V squawker 2 Peerless 8" 12ohm drivers E-Type crossover After glueing, screwing and sealing the box, I installed the woofers in holes that were slightly too big. I made some gaskets for the first test. seemed to seal ok. I'll come up with a better solution later. My first impressions are mixed. The woofers sound surprisingly good. Lots of good base as my B&K 507 crosses over to the sub at 60hz. the tweeter is nice and sharp. The upper mids are fair. The 2 woofers are parallel to present a 6ohm load. I am going to put a different coil on the woofers to keep the crossover point at 700hz. I have some questions about the mid and tweet crossover points. I've asked but seem to get no information, so here goes. 1. stock E-Type xover points are 700/7000 I would like to put new caps on this. a. I've been told the T-35 won't safely go that low (6000) and the PD-4V won't go that high (6000). And I've been told it will. b. Here is a copy of my xover. will this work? If not what are the correct values? c. if the squawker and tweeter connections are changed on the autoformer, what caps are needed to keep the xover points the same on the 1,2,3,4 tabs? d. should the xover point be 7000 or 6000? Should I go with a Type AA instead? the speaker
  11. I'm no expert but I would say as long as the hole/tube in the right length, doesn't matter where you put it.
  12. Why would the port location matter? As long as it looks good to you and achieves the purpose. What about venting it out the back?
  13. My project is 31 x 11 x 16 and will use the KV55 + K700 horn mid and the KV77 Tweeter. The crossover will be E-Type. The woofers I've decided on are sold by Apex jr. are 4ohm Klipsch 8 inch. I will series the woofers to get 8ohm and hopefully adjust the output of the mid/tweet on the autoformer.
  14. I'm kind of doint the same thing with a Heresy. I too am mounting the mid horn and tweeter horizontally with a 8 inch woofer on each side.
  15. Yes I would just take it easy and not watch any movies with a higher rating than PG-13. In a week or two you can move up to R. Have fun! really, they are speakers not a sports car.
  16. You might check Ebay and see if someone is selling parts. Or you might try this http://apexjr.com/amps.html or http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?srchExt=CAT&srchCat=505
  17. I couldn't find any numbers on the back, side or inside this speaker. What are the crossover points of a 4RB x-over?
  18. Thanks for all the interest. I would like to get a horizontal center like the one I have now. I have a 73" tv and it won't fit in the stand. I figure 31x11.25x15 would be just right. I don't think that grill comes off, but I didn't force it either.
  19. Thanks guys, I've been a klipsch fan since the 70's. I owned some Heresys way back when, they just didn't look like this one. I have a 5.1 system with Klipsch senergy series speakers driven with a B&K AVR507. I hooked it up as a center channel and it played pretty good. So you think I should sell this thing and get the parts to make a center? I'd be willing to trade for the parts. I don't want to butcher this thing if it has value to someone I just want a good center. Where to go from here?
  20. My first post so take it easy. I got this speaker with the intent to make a center channel. When I opened the back here is what I found. What is this? Some sort of Heresy I think but I'm no expert. woofer K-22 Mid K 55V Tweeter K 77 X-over 4RB ???? I want to rebuild the crossover and put the mid and tweet in a custom center channel box with 2 Eminence Alpha-8A drivers. Well let's start here. Now for the pics Dan
  21. I'm in the southwest and it's from a friend.
  22. I have a chance to buy a B&K 507 new in the box for 1500.00. I know this is a good price but should I part with the cash? And how good is it? I have HD cable and a crappy YamRX-V620. Dan
  23. Opinions on the ability of a KSW-10 amp to handle a 4ohm load and be stable? Dan308
  24. Thanks for the reply! I used to own a Carver C2000 2 channel with Klipsch Cornwalls. I remodeled and got rid of everything because I wanted 5.1 and had limited space. BIG MISTAKE! I have Klipsch speakers but bought the Yam because of good reviews. Any thoughts on why noise is only out of L&R and not the center or surrounds? Dan308
