  1. doudou in only one world please...it s french not an american doo doo for the audio first: with stereo soundtrack you will have something on your surrounds only if you have a Y adaptator or a soundcard with a soft that feed all the output of the sound card. on fact if you listen a stereo record even with a 42.3 sound card only the 2 front channel of the sound card should work.if you want some sound on all the soundcard output you have to use a soft or a driver. for exemple with soundblaster sound cards there s an option called CMSS(if i remember well),it s a kind of dsp that feed all the output. if you don t use this option stereo track are played only on the 2 front channels. for dvd: i used windvd with my 4.2 system i used the "4 speakers" option and the center was blent to the front pair of speakers. it sounded quiet well.in fact you won t see there isn t a center if your front speakers aren t too far from each other and if they are at an equal distance from your screen.and with a phantom center there is no problem of timber-macth because the two front speakers are the same so there timber are the same(quiet logical ) it shouldn t be too difficult to set your system. if i were you i would go for a sound blaster because i m sure you can do what you wan t with(because i succeed in doing what i wan t with ) i go back home now(it s 17pm here). if you have any questions...ask ps:i will answer as soon as i can,i think i will not be able to answer before thursday or friday.in the worst case it will be monday afternoon.
  2. i had several promedia (2x2.1 for a 4.2 system and a 5.1) here the way it work: if you listen to a stereo track surrouds will get a copy of the front channel. if you listen to multichannel track(dolby digital signal from a dvd for exemple) each speakers should be fed with a different signal if your sound card is properly installed.
  3. you could try to stack them. if you find a place where a sub work well, it should be ok with 2 sub. to find the best place where seting your subs, place your subs at the listennong position and then walk along your room. where you hear the best bass should be where you should place your 2 sub(one on the other).
  4. i thought that the volume of a speakers influats mostly on low frequencies(and on low mid frequencies).so if the sub make all frequencies below 85Hz it should be ok with a good bookshelf speaker. i agree on the fact that all under 85 can be made by the sub because these frequencies cannot be located.so if we don t play these frequencies on the speakers they can "breath" better. i m thinking about one thing: we must horizontalised the horn of the speakers if we turn the speaker of 90degrees, mustn t we?
  5. of course it s better to have 5 identical floorstanding speakers. we agree on this point.
  6. when i speak about perfect timbermatch,i mean perfect timbermatch the way it should be and not the way speaker sellers think it is. 5 identical speaker is better than 5 different speaker, that s exactly what you said. so 5 rb 35 should be better than 2 rf 35 for main,a rc3 for center and 2 quintets sat for rears. and the rb 35 goes down to 45Hz which is better than many floorstanding loudspeakers(even heritage speakers like the lascala, belle or heresy don t goes so deep!!) is there another thing that i have not understand yet??
  7. that s exactly why it s better to have 5 identical bookshelves speakers than having 2 big mains,a center and 2 small rears. with 5 rb-35 all speakers are the sames.furterhore, using a bookshelf speaker as a center can be easier than using a floorstanding speaker as a center.
  8. i see you may want to use bookshelves speakers for main...why not. you can buy 5 RB-35, so you will have a perfect timbermatch, and you can buy a klipsch sub in order to fill the little bass gap( like a RW12). you can sell all youspeaker system to save some bucks or set it in another room.
  9. if it s so hard to find i think you won t have to choose. the best would be to have 5 RF-35 or 4 rf35 and your center but it might be a little bit expansive. go for the RF 35 as main and 2 rb 35 if you cannot purchase 4 rf35.
  10. it s cheaper than buying a full RF-35 system. in fact you only need 2 front and maybe a center, not 5 speakers.
  11. why not buying some bigger KG and seting your KG 3.2 for rears? so you can sell your quintet. you should buy another center for timbermathcing with the KG.
  12. when i used mY two promedias 2.1 as a 4.2 system, win dvd created a phantom center chanel: voices were sent to both of the front channel so there was a virtual center.it works quiet good if your front speakers are at the same distance of your screen and if your room isn t too large.
  13. of course,if we choose a cheap wire, we have to take care about the way we set wires.if we choose expansive wire we have to take care about our wallet we cannot have all at only one time.
  14. i guess it would be the same problem with the rb... so you ll have to sleep somewhere else!!! for the moment you can have small surrounds like some promedia sat or something like that,it won t be as good as the rf(it will be far from that) but you can have surrounds for almost nothing.
  15. for your surround, why not having some rf-35 too?(later of course)
  16. if later you want some RS-35 i think you should use them near or against a wall because they are made to be on a wall.if you don t set them this way, their frequency response will change (mostly in the low frequencies)
  17. i m a litlle bit more awake now so i can think in fact the lenght of the speakers cables makes a difference: the longuer the wire are and the weaker the signal at the end is. but the difference is so little that it shouldn t be noticeable( execpt if the wire makes 200km) in fact the more important is to avoid to have too long cables and make loops with the remains of wires.it s a self and it act like a low frequency pass filter:the more loops you make and the weaker the high frequencies will be.(it can be noticeable only if you have lots meters of remains cable rolled) the other problem we can have is that a wire is an antena.so the longuer they are and the more background noise you ll get.(because of the electrical equipment near the wires, neons, cells phones, ...)
  18. ooops...sorry,next time i ll read more sharply what you ve written...i ve missed a part of your post. i apologize. this time i totaly agree with you. it s quiet logical.i m a little bit tired,it s the end of the day here, i should go to home and listen to my klipsch to rest. so i ll be able to make true post tomorrow thanks Griffinator
  19. if the output of your walkman is too weak plug it in the line reserved for the walkman on the promedia s control pod,it will give a +6db gain to the output of your walkman. but i think this input only feed 2 sats of the promedia. the best is to try
  20. don t forget that klipsch speakers have a very high sensitivity, even my poor speakers from synery serie.a loss or a gain of even a quarter of watt could be hearable.
  21. i totaly agree. the difference can only be heard at very low volume. if you listen to your system at normal or loud volume, it s not important to have the same length of wire.and it will be cheaper and give you a cleaner setup(no loops or messy wire node)
  22. it s better to have the same lenght of wire for each speaker, at least for each speakers of a pair. if each pair haven t the same lenght of wire you can set your amp in order to add some delay on each pair or each speaker(on more expansive amp). your wire should be as big and as short as possible. try to avoid loops when wires are too long. last but not least,i think buying expansive wire is a waste.juste buy some big wire in copper for electrical installation, the ration performance/cost is very good.
  23. i had 2 set of promedia 2.1 in a 4.2 system and then a promedia 5.1. with windvd with my 4.1 sys i used the 4 speakers option. with the 5.1 i used the 5.1 speakers. it s quiet simple. download a dolby or a thx trailer like "tex" or "tex 2" in a vob format and play it with windvd, if you heard sound from each channel going back and forth with "tex" your set up is ok.
