  1. I asked in a previous post how everyone resisted the urge to buy more and more gear. My answer was just a room away. Brought the Belles back into the main system after a month of listening to Cornwalls. I am cured! The Belles just sound so right, clean, so well balanced. The type A crossover is killer. In my room and with my equipment the Belles sound better balanced than the LaScalas did at the Pigramage. Sorry Cornwalls, please take your seat on the bench.

  2. How do you all do it? I am wanting for nothing new at the moment. I am very satisfied with my system. But you know how it is and what I am talking about, got a bad hankerin' to buy somethin'. Would like some Heresys to round out the Heritage collection but don't really NEED them. Would like a differant amp/pre combo but don't NEED 'em, my current gear sounds great. Two good reasons for me not to buy might be my daughters car was just totalled in an accident, needs another for college along with that second year of college tuition just being around the corner. Does anyone use what I like to call "WP", you know, good ol' willpower?

  3. Anyone familier with older Aragon equipment - 2004 MKll power amp and 24K SP pre-amp, both early 1990s. Looks like the pre has an external power supply. Is the pair worth taking a chance on? Sounds like they come from a good pedigree.

  4. Owned a retail liquor store many years back, Little Kings and Mickeys are what the "too young to drink crowd" always came in trying to buy. Mickeys had to be the most vile tasting and particularly, smelling, beer I have ever encountered. The large diameter mouth on that Mickey sent a "skunk beer" stink that was enough to gage me. I almost feel the same about the Corona craze. If a beer tastes good, why put a lemon in it? In retrospect, the size of the neck on those Mickeys would have accepted the entire lemon, not just a slice! And Lord knows it needed it.

  5. I have done a search and found many favorable reviews on the Fisher X-100 integrated tube amp. If some of the experts amoung you have time, have a look at the one on AGon for $475. That seems to be a fair price from what I gather. Opinions on price and what has been done on the restore are appreciated. How will this unit compare to a Scott 229C or D, one of which also availabe for $300 but has not been restored. Thanks

  6. As always, great feedback and varied opinions. Thanks guys. Since I am quite happy with my amplifier now, I think I will put the money to better use and round out my Heritage Line with a nice pair of Heresy's. Now I know you cannot go wrong there!!

  7. Have been thinking about trying Dynaco tube amps/pre-amps. I have seen many excellent looking re-builds and wonder about performance and what model is considered better than another,

Dynaco ST-70, MKlll or MKlV. which is considered better relative to circuitry and transformer quality. Is it best to match with a Dynaco tube pre-amp. Is this equipment quite , no hum, when played with horns. Or does this depend on who has done the re-build. Thanks

  8. Klipsch is buying Bose, finalizing the deal in September. They will be installing horns in the Bose cubes. The Bose Wave Radio will change its name to the Premier Belle Reference System 7 Mini Wave Horn Radio, a fully horn-loaded 3-way that you can sit on your kitchen table, driven by very, very tiny VRDs. Complete with CD, SACD, HCDD and eight track cassette.

My apologies to all those who attended the Pilgramage, I could hold my silence no longer.

I don't think that is entirely true since the pre-'83 models that had the "A" and "AA" networks in them were interchangeable. I don't think that the crossover components in the AA varied from model to model. They were all essentially the same with the exception of the parts being arranged differently on the board.

I was not until the implementation of the K-55M squawker that the networks took on the individuality with the creation of the AK (Khorn), AB (Belle), and AL (La Scala) prior to that they were all identical as far as I know. Good question though!

My '82 Belles came with the 55M and AB networks. Bob Crites re-built them into A/AA convertibles. The "A" sounds fantastic in the Belles, better IMO, than the "AA". According to Bob Crites the performance of the 55M is so similar to that the previous generation 55 that the A/AA networks can be used with good results. He also siad that by looking at the Belles original AB network on the scope he understands why the ABs' are not well received.

I agree. It all comes down to preference and a limited number of rooms and/or space. He has great sets of Klipschorns and Altecs and Belles - and can keep only two sets. Recently, I had to get rid of my Dean-modded RF-7s because I just ran out of space, and they would not go with my Belles and my Altecs. Even though some of my friends have multiple sets of large Klipsch (and other large) speakers throughout their home (garage, shed, work, etc.), I only have one room available for large speakers - and it reached its capacity. If a great deal on Klipschorns came my way locally, I also would have a difficult decision similar to what Dylanl is faced with.

So, while I would not necessarily call his decision a mistake, he might regret it a bit later. But, on the flip side, he is blessed with some great remaining speakers.

Just part of the audio journey - and maybe one or two of our forum members can benefit from his acquisition.

They are about 10 feet apart center to center. Still able to get very good imaging and find that perfect sweet spot. The Redgum helps with this as it has volume controls for both the left and right channels. The room opens up from the system on out, about 20x25 with a 20 foot ceiling of varying angles. The Belles and 60WPC can really breathe and open up. I had Cornwalls in this same set-up and for my taste, much prefer the Belles, hands down.

    Richard,

How do you like your Redgum? Have you ever compared it to any other solid state?

If the darn picture wasnt so fuzzy I'd really like to get a good look at it.

The Redgum is outstanding; very clean, neutral sounding, excellent bass control, very easy to listen to. Have owned the Unison Unico hybrid and Jolida hybrid integrateds, stomps them both no question. Replaced a modded Cayin integrated EL-34 tube amp coupled with a TAD 150 pre-amp with the Redgum. Kicked the hell out of that combination also. The Redgum is just a very nice amp to listen to. With the Belles, a very "real" listening experience. Sorry about the photo, will take another for you. It is worth a look, the face plate is made from native Australian Redgum wood, hence the name.

  14. "A" here, Linda too. Could it possibly be because that is one we have at home? Sounded more forward, fuller with better mids. "B" came off as a little distant sounding, veiled, thinner and empty in the mid-range. Can these differences be an effect of efficiency? But it was smooth and I must admit, toward the end of the test the sound grew on me. Who knows, a bit longer and I might have switched to "B". I did write the following on the comment section - "Could this be test between a 2-way and 3-way"? I am rather rather proud of myself.

  15. Great event, Klipsch. Everything was done in a first class manner; food, tours and gifts. It was obvious that Trey, Amy and everyone at Klipsch who gave up their Saturday, put a lot of thought and effort into the event. You are all to be congragulated. Linda and I say "thanks" and hope to do it again next year.

PS - I just KNEW speaker "A" was the right choice, maybe I am more of a skilled listener than I thought!
