  1. I know this isn't the place to be schlocking my gear, but I figured I'd give first crack to the forum. I just moved and have been going through my box-o'-cables and found this power cord. I really have no use for it and am looking to raise money for an amp - hence the sale. The cord is 6 feet in length and VERY, VERY heavy. No fairy dust. Just an excellent cable that's sure to make a (modest) improvement. These regularly sell for around $100 on AudiogoN. $75 for forum members and I'll even cover the shipping charge. PM if you'd like it. No flames, please!
  2. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts once you're up and running. My experience with the higher-end grill from Costco was NOT a good one. My hunch is that you might be equally disappointed. I looked at the Jenn Air as well and learned that the Costco grill was quite similar...you just get a few extra features for a little less money and a MUCH better warranty/return policy at Costco. Build-quality and features are nice, but the simple reality is that a grill is only as good as the food it creates. Like you, I "upgraded" from my Weber (3 burner) to the all stainless 12,000BTU, blah, blah, blah... My first couple of bbqs were actually not bad. I broke it in with some nice rib eyes. The searing action was definitely superior to the Weber. It wasn't until I tried to bbq chicken that it all fell apart. Flare-ups GALORE. I had to turn the temperature so low that it took FOREVER to cook the chicken. Even then, I had to stand and supervise lest I have another fire. I took advantage of the generous Costco return policy and went back to Weber. There's something magical about their design with the flavorizer bars and the way that it moves the drippings as far away from the flame as quickly as possible. It just works. So, on my back patio, I have a gas Weber and a classic Weber kettle. They do what they're supposed to.

I'm looking for my first set of speakers for my first tube amp and Heresy is the speaker that keeps coming up. I've sent e-mail with my phone number too. Thanks. ---------------- Well...this muddies things up a bit. I've been in contact with Olorin and we've resolved our differences. I really do apologize if I'm giving the impression that I use this community for monetary gain. That is not at all my intention. Please accept my apology. On the one hand...it would be nice for you to have these speakers as, if you're being sincere, they would be your first. On the other hand...you've only got 4 posts on the forum. But perhaps that's just due to you being "new". To be fair...I have offered the speakers to Olorin and he has first right of refusal. In all fairness, he tried to buy these several days ago when they were posted on Craiglist. If for some reason he changes his mind, one of us will let you know. But as it stands, we are tentatively planning on meeting up some time this week. Hopefully some of you had the opportunity to read the story about the original seller of these speakers rather than get caught up in the flames. It was truly an interesting, thought-provoking and inspiring story.

You have been excluded because I'm looking for a local pickup. Given your hostility and attempt at intimidation, I would not feel comfortable having you in my home nor meeting face-to-face. Nothing personal. Now...If you wish to continue this "conversation", let's do so in a private venue as you should have done from the beginning. As you say..."Rock on", Ed.

If it is truly a peace offering, why exclude the one who expressed offense? ---------------- When engaged in an argument or even friendly discussion, some people have to get the last word. Getting the last word is an angry habit. An angry habit is a behavior or personality trait that feeds an angry style of living. Getting the last word is a type of competitive behavior. You might win the argument, but more than likely you will cause people to avoid you and you will lose friends.
  6. Pacific!! Gotta' love the run they've had at UOP this year. Might not go all the way, but I'm hopin'.

  8. Amazon.com has 1 left. Free shipping and no sales tax gets it to you for $95 delivered. Not too shabby.
  9. Okay...Here's the story. Many of you may have read my previous thread in which (I feel) I was attacked by a fellow forum member. I'd like to set the record straight: I come here frequently - much of the time lurking due to a great many "events" which have taken place in my family during the past 6 months. Every now and then, I will purchase a pair of Heritage Klipsch to try out and learn more about the line. It's fun. Furthermore, I look for excellent deals when I make these purchases. It helps to justify the time and expense of completing the transaction. When I go to sell these items, I am usually able to add a small mark up to cover my costs and even make a modest profit to fund future purchases. If I were exclusively in the business of finding good deals and "pimping" the gear, I would buy a WHOLE lot more gear than I do and much of it would be from other manufacturers. To illustrate my point, I'll show you a few "bargains" on Craigslist just waiting to be bought and flipped for a profit. Here's a pair of Linn Saras for $145. Poorly advertised, but easily resold on AudiogoN for $500-600. http://www.craigslist.org/nby/ele/64189034.html Here's a Yamaha integrated amp for home theater. Sold new for $2,600. On Craigslist for $500. Could easily be Ebay'ed or AudiogoN'ed for $750-800+ http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/ele/63757598.html How about these Boston Acoustics for $400 and $300, respectively. Could be flipped for about $600 each pair. A nice $200 and $300 profit. http://www.craigslist.org/eby/ele/64082795.html http://www.craigslist.org/nby/ele/63698629.html There's SOOO much more. These are just an example. So there you have it. Buy my speakers for what I paid and flip 'em for a small profit. Buy all of the above gear and resell it for around $1,100++ profit. Perception is reality, as they say. But believe me when I say that "it ain't all about the money". It's the journey. Again...$150 for the Heresys if you want 'em. Consider this my olive branch of peace and good will. Local pickup only. Olorin excluded.
  10. Happy Birthday, Patrick!! Forget the green beer. I'll enjoy a nice single-malt scotch in YOUR honor this evening. (I'm thinking Glenmorangie 15-year-old.) A toast...to our own St. Patrick!
  11. Okay...back to the topic at hand. Earlier I stated that the seller had a very interesting story. I'll go ahead and share it with you. When I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed that (to protect his identity, let's just call him Jim) Jim was parked in a handicapped space. He was a young athletic looking guy (in his early 20s). He did, however, have a noticable limp. I asked him if he'd been injured and he said, yes. We spoke briefly and then I went to load the speakers into my car. He told me that he would grab the other one and help me, but his arm was "still kinda' broken" so he'd better not. I said, "Wow, so you really are injured...how'd it happen?" He proceeded to tell me how he was involved in a motorcycle accident on his way to work one morning. He then lifted his pant leg to reveal a metal prosthetic leg. He said that he was very lucky to be alive. I asked if anybody stopped to help him. Get this: The first person to stop was an off-duty firefighter/paramedic. He took off his belt and wrapped it tightly around Jim's leg to slow the bleeding. During the ordeal, Jim lost FOUR LITERS of blood! The second person to stop was a nurse on her way to work at Stanford Hospital. The third and final person to stop was a doctor who was vacationing. You can't tell me this was just coincidence. Jim believes (and I agree) that somebody was really looking out for him that morning.
  12. ---------------- On 3/16/2005 11:40:14 AM Olorin wrote: The Fortes that you misrepresented as Forte IIs? Fool me once, Dan. I hadn't been around long enough a year ago to have seen your colors. ---------------- The "misrepresentation" was an honest mistake. Just go back and look at the post. I disclosed any and every imperfection and took quality photos so there would be no misunderstanding. You and your girlfriend came into my home for a lengthy audition. I held the speakers for you. I was accomodating. You were under ZERO obligation to buy them. So don't misrepresent the "misrepresentation". It would also seem that the value of original Fortes exceeds that of Forte IIs. Just keep tabs on the auction history in such places as Ebay. The original Fortes with their exponential horns have the "Heritage" sound that is so desirable. But hey, what do I know? And a final clarification. Do a search through the archives and you will see that I was the first to make FREQUENT references to nice deals on Craigslist. After which, Fini began to do the same. Why didn't I just give a heads-up? 'Cuz I bought 'em. Why didn't you give a heads-up? 'Cuz you wanted to buy 'em. You're not so noble. Just bitter.
  13. Just a P.S. -- I looked through my post history and found thread after thread of either links to great deals on audio gear or just "jumping into the fray" on various discussions. And finally...a clarification on rloggie. He comes here for information and/or deals, but sells it all on Ebay for top dollar. I do my best to offer items to forum members first for CONSIDERABLY LESS than ePay. Case in point. I just sold a pair of WO Fortes to a fellow forum member for $500. They're almost mint. Just take a look at the last few Forte auctions on Ebay. $600-1,000 for similar or LESSER quality than mine. Anyhoo...Guess I should just schlep 'em on Ebay.
  14. ---------------- On 3/16/2005 9:56:23 AM Olorin wrote: Wow! Such sensitivity! That was not hostile, Dan. OF COURSE you figured you'd flip them or part them out. It's your extent of interest in the hobby. Do you think your posting history does not bear this out? How thick do you think the people around you are? Me, I figured I'd use them. You know, buy them, hook them up, use them. I have another pair of Heresys that would complement them nicely. My time and travel expenses, since you brought them up, would be justified in the getting of them. I am not, however, interested in paying you for your time and travel. Yours adds no value. Your travel time does not even decrease mine by one hour. I, or someone else here on the forum, should pay you $125 for your quickness? I suppose this is really not your problem, though. You bought them to make a buck. It's what you do. Being beaten out by someone who would use them and enjoy them would be one thing, but you're a pimp. Congratulations on your score. Come around and talk some time when you don't have something to sell. ---------------- My 400 posts are not exclusively related to selling or "pimping" gear - as you so eloquently describe. In fact, I'm not THAT far behind you in quantity of posts as if that is somehow an accurate measure of one's commitment to the hobby. (I believe you have somewhere north of 600 posts.) Also...Were you not happy to buy from me a pair of speakers (Klipsch Fortes) for a very fair price approximately one year ago? If I'm a pimp...guess what that makes you? I've been in this hobby since childhood and, for me, part of the fun is buying and trying as much gear as I can. If I happen to make a few $$ to subsidize my other purchases, is that a sin? Most of you would not have even HEARD of Craigslist were it not for me sharing links to some nice deals on Heritage Klipsch. Occasionally, I will make a purchase. Occasionally, I will make a sale. These deals come up all the time. Unfortunately, you have to be willing and able to hop in the car at a moment's notice to take advantage. Otherwise, someone will beat you to it. I only jump when the stars are in alignment. Yesterday happened to be one of those days. A few days earlier, there was a pair of JBL C36s for like $200. I wanted them and knew they wouldn't last, but I didn't have the time to go get them so I passed. They're listed for sale on Craigslist for $775. The seller, I'm quite certain is Robin Loggie. If you want to see a "pimp" whose posts "bear this out", just take a look at rloggie. Never a thing to say unless he's asking for "market value" info or listing something for sale. For the record...it was not my "quickness" that won the deal...although I'm sure it helped. It was my understanding of the marketplace and lack of greed that caused me to make an offer higher than the asking price. So quit whining, Ed...And next time there's something that you really want...make an offer and be willing to jump in the car and make it happen. Enjoy your OO Fortes...but remember...if you ever sell them, better not ask for a penny more than $450 (even though they're worth considerably more) lest, by your own definition, you, too, be called a "pimp".
  15. Wow! Such hostility!! These are, indeed, the pair in question from Craigslist. I DID NOT pay only $50 for them. I offered $150...guess which email out of the 50+ he's gonna' respond to. I figured, if nothing else, I'd flip 'em or part them out if they didn't meet the WAF. So here they are. Also, my time and travel expenses aren't free - nor should yours. Finally, the seller had quite an interesting life story which I'll share later. I need to get ready to go to work.
  16. I have a pair of '77 Heresys (Heresies?) available. The Good - They're 1977 models (a good year) and they sound terrific. The Bad - The cabinets are rough, but no gouges or missing pieces. Also, the grills have some snags and could stand to be replaced. The Unfortunate - At some point in their lives, the speakers were PAINTED black. The risers, however, are still oiled walnut. These are livable "as-is" depending on your tolerance for this type of thing. My guess is that someone with more patience than I could strip and sand them, restoring them to their original glory. Otherwise, they'd be great for the basement, garage, college dorm, man-cave, etc. I'm sure you'd like to see some pics. I'll do my best to get some posted in the next day or two. Just thought I'd put this out there and guage the interest level. Oh...I would also be willing to trade them for a decent solid state receiver (nothing vintage - remote is a must) +/- cash. Drop me a line if you're interested.
  17. ---------------- Ha! I saw them last night (yes, it was rough), and thought it might have been your ad! I would be slightly suspicious of the "cherry" veneer without seeing them, or confirming the label...Did you rap with the seller? ---------------- I didn't talk to him, but by virtue of his strong command of the Klipsch lexicon, I would guess that these are the real deal. He knows the vintage, the finish options, the grill materials and even the last year that the original Cornwalls were made. Somebody's gonna' be a happy boy - er - or girl.
  18. http://www.craigslist.org/nby/ele/63349435.html Funny s#!t! The title says it all. You gotta' see this gear.
  19. In my haste, I wrote Corwall...you know what I meant! Did I mention that they're Lacquered Cherry with cane grills??
  20. Fini is usually quick to notify of the Craigslist postings. Must have been a rough night. Anyway...Here's the link. In the Bay Area - somebody better act QUICK! http://www.craigslist.org/eby/ele/63253988.html

I'll give this a try.
  22. ---------------- On 3/7/2005 9:12:23 AM fini wrote: Before or after the re-foam? ---------------- Yes. Not trying to be cute, but I really thought that I'd leave them alone and let the buyer decide. I would lean toward using a 3rd party who has a passion for vintage audio rather than the authorized service centers that I spoke with. I found a guy in San Jose who is a JBL/Altec/Klipsch FREAK. His full-time gig is as a high school teacher, but he does repair work on the side. He quoted me $45 each for a refoam or $85 each for a complete recone. So we're +/- $100 depending on the whether or not they're refoamed prior to purchase. They will play as is, but I would only play them briefly at a modest level to avoid damaging the voice coils. (I mention this to illustrate that even if they were not yet refoamed, the buyer would have an opportunity to hear them and verify their operability.) He told me, for instance, that on a recone he would carefully cut out the dust cap on the old cone and use it on the new one to keep the look of the driver "original". I guess even a new cone from JBL would look different from the original. Anyway...It's this kind of care and attention to detail that I think we can all appreciate.

Too bad the original grill foam wastes away. ---------------- Actually...The L300 Summits are only a few inches taller and an inch or two deeper. Otherwise, they're virtually identical. The throat on the midhorn is an inch longer on the L300 and, of course, they have the 077 tweeters.
  24. I give up! There are more photos that I can email if you're interested. Hopefully these are enough to give you the general idea.
