  1. ---------------- Your straight up digital connection probably has no EQ by default and your pc probably doesn't EQ a digital pass through. ---------------- I don't know what the pc does by default for equalizing the stereo connection. It makes sense to me that the receiver wouldn't equalize the digital pass through. In this case it would expect the player (i.e. something like a denon 3910) to have equalized the digital signal first. 1. Anyone know if the denon 3805 can apply the equalizer to the digital stream coming in over coax? 2. Why would the stereo signal affect the coax one when the receiver isn't on the stereo input but instead on the v aux 1 input which is assigned to the coax 1 (see above message for more detail)?
  2. here's the new toy coming soon... http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=204&product=11226
  3. Well I have been blown away by klipsch support as I spoke to them this afternoon. The rep agreed under the circumstances (trying to provide whatever I had to identify myself as having bought them legitimately and the fact that the store that was bought out was only a couple miles from my home address) that he would ship me a replacment woofer absolutely free!!! I didn't even try to talk him into it but he offered on his own. I have never been treated so kindly and been given the benefit of the doubt in such as way as this. What most companies fail to realize these days is that many of the claims are legit and spending just a little bit as in this case is such goodwill that they have just gained a customer for life. Now whoever I talk to about home theater will get an earful about how great not only their product is but also their service. They can be assured of more business from me and my friends. I am so surprised to have received such service. KEEP ON KLIPSCH!
  4. Very good points...I will consider this a learning experience and am glad it isn't as costly as I thought it would be. My new sony kdf60xs955 rear proj lcd will have its documentation religiously kept.
  5. Man you are totally taking things out of context. I am glad they are cheap I just didn't want to order a part that was the wrong one. In my lifetime I have had customer service people who are uniformed send me the wrong part so I was just checking with some fellow enthusiasts to see if it was in the ballpark as I obviously had no idea. Also, it is only unethical if it is an illegitimate claim. If I am rightfully under warranty then what am I doing wrong? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning did you?
  6. Yes but per my post above can they actually be this cheap. My dad has a jbl 100 t3 speaker that had the woofer blow out and it was like $200 to get a new one (and he therefore hasn't gotten it yet).
  7. I am thinking of getting the new audigy 2 video editor as it can do sound and video (coming out next month). I wanted to cure the hissing my sound card releases on the laptop. I tried everything including reformatting, new drivers, registry tweaks, and even getting the motherboard replaced but it seems these dell inspiron 8600s are notorious for unclear sound emited from the card. When I output from the headphone out into the cd in on my denon 3805 I hear the hiss so I wanted to try the digital coax out. With the digitial coax out going into coax input 1 on the receiver which is mapped to the aux 1 input I get a very flat response. Virtually no bass and it just sounds terrible. However when I plug back in the stereo cord which maps to the cd input and leave the receiver on the aux input 1 (with the coax plugged in too) then things sound better. Now why would the stereo signal going into the receiver affect the v aux 1 which has only the coax coming from the computer. This makes no sense to me. Also, can someone give me a brief explanation of pcm and ac3? Is pcm just stereo signal and ac3 dolby digital? Thanks
  8. The guy on the parts dept said it only costs $35.11 + $5 shipping. Is that possible for the entire mid range speaker? How can a voice coil, cone, magnets, etc be that cheap? If it is it probably isn't worth the hassle of trying to get it covered under warranty.
  9. I tried contacting support to see if my registration would work but here is part of the reply... "our parts dept would then need some sort of proof-of-purchase faxed to them at 317-860-9195 (product registration is not connected with warranty proof-of-purchase)."
  10. Hi, I need warranty service on my rp-3 mains but don't have my receipt. They were bought from united audio which got bought out by tweeter and they have no records of the sales for klipsch since they don't carry the brand anymore. Can anyone help me by faxing me a receipt? If so please reply. This is legitimate and I am not trying to get away with anything here. I spent the extra on buying from a local auth dealer so that I would be covered and cannot believe I both lost the receipt and the dealer got bought out and has no records. Thanks
  11. I called my local klipsch dealer and he said they might be able to replace it under warranty. I just need the original receipt. They were purchased from united audio in 2001 and I can't find the receipt which is a problem. United audio got bought out by tweeter and they don't have any records of it nor do they carry klipsch anymore. Anyone have any ideas for me? If only I had a receipt for these rp-3 mains... The dealer is going to find out the cost of a woofer for me early next week so if it isn't too bad maybe I wont worry about the warranty. I spent plenty of money buying these from an authorized dealer so if I can find a way to get it serviced under warranty I obviously will.
  12. Can anyone explain to me the details on why clipping damages the voice coil? I know it is the extereme ends of the wave that are clipped off but why this actually damages a voice coil I don't know. And yes upon smelling the voice coil it does smell slightly burnt. Can a voice coil alone be replaced? All the other stuff looks good and it seems wasteful to not use all the other good parts.
  13. My klipsch reference rp-3 mains have a problem. The mid-range driver went and I need to get a new one. I have taken the driver out of the left and put it in the right to make sure and sure enough it works when switched. I don't know much about speakers but with a slight push on the dust cap I can hear some crackling in what I guess is the voice coil behind the spider. 1. Is there a way I can fix this woofer? I don't see how it could come apart. 2. Anywhere I can buy the whole piece for fairly cheap? 3. Anyone know how much it costs from klipsch directly? 4. Is the midrange woofer in this the exact same as in the rs-3 surrounds and the rc-3 center? 5. If the leads are taped so they don't short is it still a problem to drive the unit with just the tweeter and sub? Will that damage the receiver amp? Why or why not? 6. Does this usually happen from being overdriven? I have a denon 3805 receiver and had it cranked all the way up for a short time. I didn't notice anything then but now a week or so later it didn't seem like the one main was working and sure enough it wasn't. I think the mains are rated for like 110 watts and the receiver puts out 120 watts per channel but I wouldn't have thought on full power it would even attain that. Why would it have gotten screwed?
  14. I upgraded from a cheap $300 onkyo so I am very happy. Many people complain about the remote and while not real intuitive it works once you get used to it. I think it certainly looks cool but the buttons aren't the smoothest. Nothing I complain about much though. I don't have a lot to reference to but I can't imagine getting much better than this in a receiver especially at this price. The auto equalizing works great. Similar to the yamaha rx-v1400/2400 which I demoed. The component upgrade is useful as well. The equalizer I thought was very close except for the sub for me. I am not sure why but I had to raise up the sub level manually to get to a good level. I had to raise it +3.0db for music and a good +5.0 for movies. That is the only part I am slightly frustrated with now as playing cds (actually dvd-audio) discs through the dvd player use the same input as the dvd movies so I have to manually change the channel level every time for optimal sound. If I switch to ext in for dvd-audio I think it sounds flat but I am almost positive it is because of my cheaper toshiba sd4800 dvd player. I don't know how to get around this. If you have specific questions I will be glad to respond. Hopefully I will learn something out of it. Ohh...people say the owners manual sucks too and they are right. And one more thing, this one has PLIIx from the start which is another benefit...not like the rx-v1400 I was looking for and having to worry about getting one with the upgrade. Now all I have to do is get my TV upgraded. I have only a toshiba 27" interlaced set that is almost 2 yrs old. The tv has component which I use and it looks great but obviously it is no HDTV. I may be picking up a 50" sony lcd when they come out with the new model in Sept or possibly the new samsung DLP tantus with the HD2+ chip coming out this summer.
  15. I much prefer the lfe+main on my system. See below for sys details.
