  1. Hi all, I just wanted to see if anyone else becomes really depressed when their tube amp has to leave home for some time... If everything goes accordingly, the ol' powerplant should be home in a week's time... I haven't listened to the sweet sound of my Scott 299C in over 2 months now... How long have you guys had to part with your amps before? -Arman
  2. Thank you! That helps alot! I was worried about collisions, etc. (it's been awhile since I've had a physics class - and we never really talked about sound in there...) I've got another question - the tile on my floor has uneven heights, one tile might be slightly taller than the other creating an uneven surface, this causes my sub and L speaker to not sit on the floor flatly. Can I put a rubber mat or piece of carpet (measured and cut to match the dimensions of the sub/speaker)? Will this affect the sound waves or quality?? Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi all, I've got a stupid question...I want to know if the subwoofer's position will affect the sound waves coming from my left floorstanding speaker (left hand side of viewing position). My speakers are arranged: left speaker, sub, TV w/ center on top, dvd player and amp, and right speaker. The sub is basically in between the L speaker and the TV (too boomy in the corner). Since my L speaker will have to be angled a bit towards the listening position, will that affect the sound of the L speaker or the bass? I'm worried about the sounds intercepting each other, etc. Thanks in advance! -Arman
  4. That's an impressive pair of Liederhoesen...hehehehehehehehehehee.
  5. Thanks for all the input, guys! I've learned a little... The only problem with hanging the foam or tapestry on the wall behind me...is that I have movie posters hanging from that wall...and I'd really like to not move those, but I guess I could. I think that I will keep a tapestry or foam board on hand - so when I'm about to watch a movie, I can unroll it and hang it on the wall...and remove it when finished. The wall to the left of my viewing position is covered in 12" ceramic tile. This wall is about to be covered with plywood, and then painted over. Will this affect the absorbtion of sound? reflection? etc.? Would it help if I drew a layout of my room? Thanks in advance!

Near the wall you will be hearing both the direct signal and the signal reflected off the wall. When you are measuring things in inches instead of feet there is not much you will be able to do about it. ---------------- Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. Right now, I'm sitting about 11.5 - 12' away from a 65" rear projection TV. I plan on moving the seat up to about 8 feet away when watching a movie...so, that leaves me about 3 feet of space between the back wall and my head...
  7. Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this... I have a 14' * 14' room, with my home theater setup on one end and my sofa/futon (haha) on the other end, resting against the opposite wall. I've been reading up on speaker placement (mostly for my SUB) and I've come across more than one source that suggests the listening position not be up against a wall. Can I ask why this is such a problem? Will the sound lose its potency (from the listener's position)? Does the sound need to reflect? I am already planning on moving my viewing position up to a distance of about 100" from my 65" screen (for optimum viewing distance / effect) - which leaves about 30 - 40" of space between the back of my futon and the wall. Is this enough space? My equipment is in my sig.... Thanks in advance! -Arman
  8. Hi All, Thanks for the responses guys! I'm testing out different locations - there is alot of boominess when the sub is about 4 inches away, I think I'll pull it out to 12 inches or so, let us see what happens. I paid $920 with tax! THAT IS A STEAL OF A PRICE!! HAHAAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAH!
  9. Hi all, First off, I want to state that the audio portion of my home theater is finally complete (maybe, we'll see in a year). I picked up a RSW-15 for a steal-of-a-price on Monday and have a few questions... Everyone suggests corner-loading for a sub, currently, my sub is in the far left-corner of my room, on the same wall as the TV. My brother suggests leaving about a distance of 3 inches from the sub to the corner vs. sticking the sub directly against the corner (almost touching the corner) - why should I leave space? Also, do you guys recommend putting the sub in a corner vs. any other location? I heard something about sticking the sub in a closet...I have a closet that sits in the left-hand corner of the wall where the audience sits... What should the HZ dial be set to on the back of the sub (by the inputs)? Also, this thing KICKS ***! I tested certain scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean (Elizabeth's rescue, the necklace sends out a shockwave) and the talking head scene from Matrix: Revolutions. Also, I used the THX Optimizer to test out the sub......holy crap! Thanks in advance! -Arman
  10. Hi all, I'm looking for a center channel to match my Klipsch KG 5.5s...what do you guys recommend? I currently have a RC-35, however, I don't really think it matches.......my floorstanding speakers.... I'm currently looking at the KV series...anyone have any suggestions? Any centers for sale out there?
  11. Hi all, I'm a relative newb when it comes to HT, especially when dealing with vintage equipment. My current setup: - Scott 299C Tube Amp - 2 Klipsch KG 5.5 floorstanding speakers - Klipsch RC - 35 Center Channel The Scott Tube Amp does not support a center channel (I don't want a derived center), so I had to purchase a new AMP to expirement. I am not impressed with the quality of sound/bass that the solid state amps produce (I purchased a Denon AVR-3805). I've demoed a slew of certain scenes(SPR, Kill Bill, Apocalypse Now, Braveheart, Gladiator, etc.) and I've decided to keep the Tube Amp, however, I want to keep the center channel because it makes a world of difference - I can hear every word clearly, every detail is picked up, etc. Is it possible to hook up a mono amp to the center channel, run the center from the DVD player to a mono amp and hook the center to the mono amp...also, would I be able to adjust the volume of the center?? Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi Guys, I'm in the market for a center channel...........here are the specs on my AMP/Speakers: * Scott 299C Tube Amp * Klipsch KG 5.5s\ What do you guys recommend? I prefer used.... Also, what does a center channel contribute exactly to an audio setup? Thanks in advance! -Arman
  13. Thanks to all for the responses! I am amazed by the PQ of the Pioneer Elite series, however, I don't know whether to watch TV or play piano on that thing... (those who have seen the TV will get that ) The box of the Elite is not too appealing to me. It's too classic, and I'm an aesthetic man. I have been entertaining the idea of a 61" Samsung DLP, however, I don't know of the extra $2k - 3k is worth it (I basically watch alot of DVDs). Also, the new batch of TVs will be released in August - and I would be might regretful if those TVs were a better bang for the buck, etc. Taurus, are you referring to the calibration that needs to be done " out of the box " for optimal PQ? The store manager at a local Ultimate Electronics said that his techs will set that up for me, and take care of me. I hope he was referring to the extended calibration required... Here is what I've narrowed it down to, SAMSUNG DLP 61", Mitsubishi 65" SilverSeries and the Diamond Series Mitsu. Keep the responses coming.
  14. Hi all, What do you all think about this TV? http://www.ultimateelectronics.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=1225&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=1529&iSubCat=1540&iProductID=1225 How would you rate it against: http://www.ultimateelectronics.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=964&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=1529&iSubCat=1540&iProductID=964 and http://www.ultimateelectronics.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=1207&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=1529&iSubCat=1540&iProductID=1207 I was going to purchase the Mitsu a few days ago, but due to some unexpected financial trouble(s), I had to postpone the purchase for a month or so. I guess this gives me some time to get some honest opinions..... Thanks in advance. -Arman
