Hi all, I have a Denon DVD 2200 (DVD player) that has the following: 192kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown audio D/A converter I am extremely satisfied with this piece of equipment. I found an Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 soundcard that offers the following: 24-bit 192 kHz D/A converters and 24-bit 96 kHz A/D Does that mean that the playback of these 2 will sound similar if hooked up to the same exact AMP and speakers? I have a Scott 299c Tube AMP fueling 2 Klipsch KG 5.5 floorstanding speakers and a Scott 99D Monoblock Tube AMP fueling a Klipsch KV-3 center channel. Also, I have a Klipsch RSW-15 hooked up to the DVD player. I am worried that sound quality will suffer if I go the HTPC route...but the Audiotrak has given me an enormous amount of hope. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I plan on using my HTPC for DVD playback ONLY. I'm not interested in using my CRT projector for HD (I have a RPTV that'll do the job) and I don't plan on recording TV shows or anything. I'm very interested in the Chaintech GeForce 6600 GT (read a few reviews claiming its superiority...) but the price kinda turns me off. I have a 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti 4200 @ the moment w/ the following specs: Controller: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 Bus Type AGP Memory 128MB DDR Core Clock 250MHz Memory Clock 450MHz DDR memory (128MB) RAMDAC 350MHz API Support Direct-X, Open GL ICD for Windows Connectors VGA, DVI, TV In/Out Are there any other cards that you all recommend? ---- Let me know, thanks! -Arman

Doctor! Yeah, I picked up the Furman today...got it for $54 (w/ tax) at a guitar center 30 min. away from me...it's already hooked up and everything. The only problem is that the cord is 6' - so if I want to have it in one of the shelves, I had to connect it to a surge protector (Belkin Surgemaster). Here's the thing, the power cable of my sub will not reach the Furman...haha. Can I plug the sub into the surge protector, or am I better off keeping the Furman behind the TV with the sub connected to it...?

Hi all, I don't know if this is the proper place for this...but how much would a rebuilt Scott 299c in GREAT condition go for nowadays? Also, what about a Scott 99D in great condition? Thanks in advance!

My maaaaan, Wouldn't an extension cable nullify the idea of having a power conditioner? (Plus, the extra wire would look gross - haha.) Do you know why the more expensive Furman has a lower rating compared to the lower priced one? Do you like the Belkin?

Thanks for all the help! You're right - $69 is nothing - so if they don't work...no biggie. I'll prob wait a week or 2 before placing an order - I just received my amp last night and hooked it up - WOW - the bass is so crisp and tight and slamming and strong, etc... Anyhow - let me see if any problems arise after a week or so...I might take the plunge. Thanks for the advice John - let us see what happens!

Wow!!! I appreciate all the helpful information! I am really interested in picking up the bass traps - they are so much cheaper than I previously thought. Is the $239 price for 8 of them? The problem with 2 of the #3 spots is that doors open into those corners...the 2 corners on the viewing position wall have doors. Will this be a problem? My amp comes in tomorrow - so I will test out some movies and music and if I am still unsatisfied, I will order the bass traps. THANKS GUYS (DrWho is my hero) -Arman

Hi all, Sorry that I keep bothering you with these trivial sub questions...but I have too much time on my hands, HAHA. Anyhow, I noticed that the current position of my sub yields very weak bass when I am near the center of the room, as opposed to further up against the opposite wall and corners of the room. I can see the sub working, and hear some low notes - but I don't feel it really...by scooting back maybe 1 1/2 - 2 feet, a world of difference is made (The bass becomes very loud and strong). My room is supposed to be 14' x 14', however, there is a closet that was built into my room as opposed to into the wall. The measurements of the closet do not add up (40" x 32"). The closet is to the immediate left of my viewing/listening position (with a foot of space or so). The bass feels robust in this viewing spot, however, it is much stronger when I scoot 2 - 3' over near the corner... What suggestions do you guys have? I'd like to sit much closer to the TV (1.5x the distance instead of 2x) - but the bass is so damn weak at my ideal spot. I could just move the TV up, right? Haha. I have included an image!

DrWho, mi amigo...thanks for the quick reply. I have a RSW 15, I leave a 5 inch space on both sides of the subwoofer (from the walls). Should I move it out further? You are the man!

Hi all, I can't remember where I read that raising a subwoofer several inches off the ground is actually more beneficial... If you were to raise it, what would you do - place it on a stand or something? Any truth to this?

Hi all, I just had a home improvement project completed and am kind of worried...I had 1/2" thick boards put up to cover an existing wall. The corner that the sub sits in is uneven, what I mean is that the wall to the side of the sub is nice and even, and covers the entire side. The wall to the rear of the sub (where the rear driver fires) is 1/2" thicker for a length of 12 inches or so, then there it becomes 1/2" less thick (original wall). The thicker portion of the wall lasts until the middle of the rear driver... Will this hurt me?!?!? Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I am really interested in picking up an AVIA disc to calibrate my TV and sound system... I am using mostly vintage equipment for the sound (check the signature)- can I still usa AVIA to calibrate the sound? Also, which disc do you all recommend? The basic $50 one? Can anyone provide me to any links on the web so I can make the purchase, or does anyone have a disc they wanna sell? Thanks in advance! -Arman

Haha, that may be true (the 6 DB claim) - who knows. I just stuck 'em in there and left 'em. I manage the volume of both amps seperately - the left and right speakers are managed by the 299c, and the center channel is managed by the 99D (they're independent of each other...?) Hi all, I don't know much about surround sound...but I've got a question or 2... I'm interested in adding 2 rear surround speakers to my current setup, and I wanted to get an idea of what the best bang for the buck is... My brother mentioned a HK 430 receiver and maybe a pair of RC-5s. My current setup is in the sig, and I'd like to keep it vintage for the most part... Any suggestions on how I would go about matching everything up? Also, price points would help... Thanks in advance and HAPPY 4th of July! -Arman

Hi all, I have a 14' * 14' room, with a rear projection TV on the front wall and the seating position (2 recliners) 8' feet away from the screen. The floor is covered with ceramic tile, which has become bumpy and uneven due to the roots of the trees that cover our yards (front and back). This uneveness causes the sub and speakers to sit on the floor unevenly (one peg might not touch the ground, causing it to wobble) if not placed in a specific spot. I want to cover the floor of the front wall with laminate flooring to create a smooth, even floor...also, the flooring will raise the speakers, sub and TV about 1/4 - 1/2" off the ground. Will this affect the sound? Does the tile affect the sound? Sorry for the run-ons and incomplete ideas, I'm kinda in a rush to type this (I'm at work, hahaha)...
