  1. I'm trying to mate my new Klipsch RF5, RC7, RSW15 with a decent receiver and DVD player - that matches well with them, as well as the room, my ears, my budget, etc. I can see the argument for the seperates - alot of folks have dedicated listening rooms or listen to a lot of DVD Audio or SACD. Last night I auditioned a Rotel and an Arcam with Denon's 2900 through RF5s. It sounded amazing to me. Problem is that isn't how I listen to music. When I use my DVD it's for movies - not much else. When I listen to music it's usually XM Radio or MP3 - neither of which I would consider high quality sources. With that in mind - is just a waste of money to go into a higher end receiver or seperates? And I really don't see what a $1000+ DVD player is going to do for me. I can see how it would benefit others but for my uses..... I know it's what "sounds good to me" but there's just no way to audition all the decent equipment. Then you take it home - it sounds different anyways plus I just don't know how it will do with my sources. So I'm open to any opinions - but would like to here from folks that listen to similar sources as I do and use their DVD for just movies. Thanks as always.
  2. thanks for the info. I know I need to use my own ear - but others opinions do save on travel time. For the most part I am happy with the Denon 3805. It is a bit bright though. I still haven't tuned it properly (still learning how ) and the hardwood floors don't help. I'm just making sure those are the reasons and not the I'll never be satisfied with the Denon. The other issue is retraining my ears - going from Energy speakers - which were warm/fault to a fault at times - The Klipsch/Denon is big change. It's just hard since only one dealer carries Klipsch in my area. So listening to different receivers generally means taking it home.
  3. I think that my receiver does video upconvert (Denon 3805) - if that's true do I need the DVD to upconvert as well? for the folks that have Denon DVD - how do you like them?
  4. Any strong recommendations on Players? What does a $1200 player do that a $400 can't. I see alot of technical crap on different websites - which mean nothing to me. Is there any benefit to buying the receiver and DVD player from the same manufacturer? I.E. I have a Denon 3805 - would I get the best bang for the buck from Denon. Still considering taking the plung with Arcam but not sure.
  5. could you provide more of information then that?
  6. After looking at the RF35, RF5 and RF7 - I settled on the RF5. After hearing RF5/7 I just couldn't go back to the RF35. The soundfield was much closer and wider. The RF7 are truly the flagship in this line. I just couldn't over come the WAF factor on that one. Plus I don't listen to enough two channel to really justify the extra expense. The RF5, with RC7 and RSW15 - make for some good music and strong punch with movies.
  7. It seems that most people classify receivers in two major catagories - warm versus Bright. Which are warm and which are bright? Is their a particular catagory that matches better with Klisch? There are too many receivers out there - I need some help narrowing down where I want to look.

    video

What do I gain by running all my video inputs through my receiver? It makes things convenient - but I'm not sure what else is to gain. I would think the picture quality of going directly from DVD to TV would be the same if not better. And if I'm just watching the news or some sitcom - I see no reason to even have the receiver on. What am I missing? Seems like the trend is to continue to add alot of video processing to the receivers - but then that drives the price of the reciever up.
  9. thanks everyone. I'm finding opinions vary greatly on what people think particular receivers do - it's interesting. But the consensus still seems to be that Denon's go well with Klipsch. I like mine - I don't find it gets harsh unless I've got it loud enough to take the paint off the walls. Has anyone used the auto-equal setting? opinions? It's my understanding that you only want to use an equalizer to make subtle adjustments to compensate for a particule room or environment. Well the auto-equalizer seems to have made sigficant adjustments. I actually like the change when listening to some rock especially at lower levels - seems to have boosted some fullness (for lack of a better term). Doesn't sound as good with other types of music. Just wonder what other peoples milage has been.
  10. odd since other people's comments were that Denon's sound was not warm and "thin". And better suited for other speakers. I understand what you mean by what sounds good to me - but I thought my Yamaha/Energy setup was good until I heard Klipsch. It's why everyone wanst to go to the store and A/B different setups. But in this case I've found only one Klipsch dealer near me and am at their mercy for what they carry for receivers. I don't mind trying a few at home but I don't want to do it a dozen times - so just looking for peoples opinions. What else is comparable to the 3805? I don't like that it doesn't do have a video passthrough and will not accept a digital input for Zones 2/3. Minor annoyances but features I would like.
  11. I'm a few weeks into my new setup using RF5, RSW15, RC7 and some RCR5. After some research decide to power these with the Denon 3805. Nice upgrade over my Yamaha. I've read elsewhere on line that Denon's are not a real popular choice for use with Klipsch. That they general cause the speakers to sound harsh and fatiguing. This was also said about Yamaha. Where I got the speakers specialized in Denon and Yamaha - so I don't have any way to really compare. The recommendations thrown out where Marantz, H/K and a few others. Everything I read said the 3805 was just about the best in that price range (although there are a few things missing) so I thought I had done good. Can someone enlighten me here? Am I missing something really or are other folks just being picky for whatever reason. Is it worth returning for something else - eventhough I won't be able to demo it till I get home. If so, what are the recommendations? Music and movies are split 50/50. I'd like to stay under $2000. Thanks for any and all input - as always.
  12. no such thing as overkill on this board. I use RCR5 for in home audio in 4 rooms as well as the rears for my HT. I'm not sure I can answer your question - but the RCR5 are great sounding speakers. They are the best in wall speakers that I've heard. Well worth the money in my opinion.

    RCW-5

I want to get an RCW5 to put in the back was for a 6.1 system. The guy that put the others in for me said that Klipsch has discontinued this model and he may not be able to get it. He said the replacement would ship for 3 weeks. Anyone know where to get an RCW5? Anyone know how to get a the replacement sooner? Thanks
  14. not sure I've heard of someone running just a center channel. Are you planning on connecting it directly to the TV? I would suggest looking to a pair of small bookshelves such as the RB25s. They may still meet your requirement but also provide more flexibility and you could build out your HT from there as money/space permits. But to answer your question - I would go with the RC25 - haven't heard the other one - but reference line overall is good. I listened to the RC25, RC35 and the RC7. Went with the RC7 but the other two did quite well.
  15. can you explain why two subs would work as you mentioned? Is it because they wouldn't have to throw as much as far as one sub would need too? Seems like that wouldn't matter much given the size room - 16 feet isn't far for low frequencies.
  16. no one mentioned there being a significant difference between rf35s and rf5s but there is a difference. (Let your ears judge what works for you). And I don't doubt that the RF7s will match better to the RC7s over the RF5s. But I've heard it - and thought the RF5 match better to the RC7 then the RC35. But you made my point at "If they fit in my room". It's not just size of the room, but placement, WAF etc. My room being an acoustical challenge - I think the RF5s will be a little more forgiving. Are the RF7s better, yes - but I doubt anyone here will say that RF5s with RC7 and an RSW15 will not make for a better then average HT. And I have just concluded that RF5s will work best in my environment. Regrets - of course that's possible - but you could get the RF7s and weeks later decide that wished you had Khorns...
  17. thanks. can't do a floor speaker. Thinking of doing a single RCW3 or 5 on the back wall. Maybe tough to calibrate with the RCR and fronts but heck - who doesn't like a challenge.
  18. >rs-35's OR rs-7's//rb35's//rc-35's hummm...that isn't quite as easy as the center/sub? Actually none of those are options - the WAF is a big problem with the rears. Plus the room set up doesn't really allow anything on stands or on the floor. Pretty much has to be RCRs or RCWs. One wall has a bunch of windows - so the RCW would have to be about 8 feet up. kind of a challange.
  19. that is a good idea but it'll never pass the WAF. I'd like to use RSW in a 6.1 config - but on one wall - the speaker would have to be about 8 feet up. Don't really have the ceiling space for a 7.1 with the RCR's and they only come in pairs - so I think I'm down to using the RCRs in a 5.1 setup.
  20. I wanted to do a 6.1 setup. for my installation, rears/surrounds have to be in-walls/in ceiling. I'd prefer the RCWs but I don't think i can make them work - one wall has all windows - the speaker would have to be 7.5 - 8 feet high - the ceiling is only 9 feet high. That lead me to considering RCRs. From what I understand they only come in pairs. Since I don't think 4 speakers on one side of the room in the ceiling will pass the WAF, I was just going to stick one there for the rear - but they are sold in pairs and don't want to pay for a "spare". So that leaves me with a 5.1 setup with two RCRs in the ceiling. I'm sure this will be acceptable but was really hoping to take advantage of some of the newer formats going forward. Thoughts or additional ideas??
  21. good info all. I'm really leaning towards the RF5s matched with a RSW15. The better finish over the RF35 helps the WAF. I think with my room - the RF5s will probably be a little more forgiving. The RSW15 should pick up some of the low end that the RF7 would have provided. Gotta believe that they'll sound killer - and should be plenty loud for me. The center will be the RC7 - I thought it matched better although a few have mentioned RC35 was closer. Beyond that - now have to work on the rears.....
  22. MarkBK: what size is your room? does the RC35 match up better with the RF5s then the RC7? I was leaning towards the RC7.
  23. did you mean RF-7s for the front? how high up do you anticipate mounting the RCWs?
  24. ok - that makes sense. That's not what i was thinking - that pic clears it up. The turned out really well. I'll pass it by the wife but I'm thinking no - maybe some day - upstairs. I think the RCR-5s and angle the tweeter is the best I can do.....I think.
  25. 16inches is probably still too far. But I could toe them in of course - I could push them further from each other if needed. What do you notice if they were 8 inches from the wall?
