  1. Viggie: This above all else is a very personal choice. But just my opinion I would take the 6 to 8 grand you saved on the THX-Ultra2 set up and buy a very good receiver to power your new Ref 8 set up. Like I said it is very personal choice but if you indeed like the sound of Onyko why not set up to the Integra line and listen to the Integra DTR 9.9 receiver. It cost about $2000- $2200 and has settings to not only tweak each channel but each device on that channel. I demo one and liked the sound especially for H.T. I decided on Denon AVR-5308CI and love the sound with the Klipsch. The thing about Klipsch speakers is they're very unforgiving to sub-par equiptment and cabling. The Denon runs very clean and has excellent response for both H.T. and SAC listening. You can probably pick one up in the neighborhood of $5,000 and be set for a long while. But like I said it all depends on your listening habits music or movies. If I was you and I couldn't swing the Denon I'd look at the brand new ROTEL -RSX-1560. It won the best value award at CES 2009 and I personally heard it on Ref-83 and it sounded awesome. I really think this would be a good choice for you. It has 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs and supports all the lastest codecs including deep color and true D.T.S. And it uses the faroudja video processor so you can send video thru H.D.M.I without worry. Just some thoughts but don't be afraid to demo multiply units. Many dealers let you demo receivers for 30 days and you can return them and try something else until you hear something you like. Trust me you'll know. A lot of folks here will try to make you demo seperates. You can also do that but after a certain price range around 2500-2800 hundred I can't tell the difference and the new receivers all come with room adjusting dynamic parameters that do the work for you. But like I said before demo demo demo.It is very personal. RickZler
  2. Hey Guys: Hope all is well and your gear is accoustically pleasing . I'm looking to procure a pair of RS-62 Surrounds and pair of RB-81CH to finish my home theather set up.What do you think is a fair price for both and what internet or retail store should I purchase them from. I'v looked at many authorized and non-authorized dealers and the pricing varies wildly from place to place. I want a reputable place but not one that's going to rip me off because of their name and amount of locations and marketing. Any suggestions would be appreciatted and thanks in advance. Oh yes I'm located in the New York Long Island area. RickZler
  3. Hi All: I have a pair of Ref-7's and never got around to setting up a home theather surround sound system. I bought a new A.V.R. that has all the lastest codecs from D.D. and D.T.S. and was wondering if the RC-64CH would play nice with my Ref-7's as a center channel speaker. I also would probably go with 2 RS-62 surround speakers. My room is only 15 X 25 with an opening into a kitchen on one side and a dining room with vaulted ceilings just to the left of the kitchen on the same side. The room has a oriental throw 8 X 8 and the rest of the rooms have wood flooring. Unfortunately I have the T.V. on the long wall so I sit facing one of the 25 foot walls instead of the 15 foot wall which would give me much more room behind me. As of now the seating is only 8.5 -10.0 feet from the screen. In this case it would be impossible to run a true 7.1 set-up since the rears are recommended to be placed 3 to 6 feet behind you and my couch is against the wall. Do you think that the speaker set-up mentioned above is to much for such a small room and will the RC-64CH sound decent with my Ref-7's or is the timber match way off? Any help with this information would be great. I posted a similiar thread yesterday but left out a lot of details that I have included in this one. Thanks very much in advance. RickZler
  4. I have a pair of mint RF-7's with hardly any sonic time on them. This was one of the last pairs before they rolled out the RF-8 line. I was hoping to set up my home theather with the a RC-7 center channel speaker and the rest of the RF-7 reference line of speakers. I decided to wait for H.D.M.I. 1.3a and buy a new Denon 5803-CI instead because all my sources use H.D.M.I. 1.3a as output. So now I'm ready to finish my H.T. but was wondering how the Timbre matching was between the Ref-7 fronts and the RC-64CH center channel speaker. I know that you should always match in sets but I can't justify getting rid of my Ref-7's with just a few dozen hours on them with low power. They're like brand new out of the box. I was thinking about trying to find a RC-7online but the difference in time used would probably cause a issue since by Rf-7's aren't even sonically broken in. Also when you buy online (E-Bay) how could you possibly know that you aren't getting ripped. Anybody using the Ref-7's with the RC-64CH while waiting to update to the 83's? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated and thanks much in advanced. Thanks RickZler
  5. I just moved into a new smaller house with totally different acquostics then my former place. I 'm setting up my media room and H.T. The room is 16 X 14 and opens directly to a smaller room at 12 X 10. A very open floor plan and the media room has high ceilings at about 10 feet with a sloping peak at ends of ceiling where it meets the walls. Right now I'm thinking about finishing the reference series to go with my fronts(Ref-7's). My question @ 14 feet in width do you think this room is to small for the 1 RC7 and 2 rs7's and 2 rb75's for the rear. That is the way I plan to go but was wondering if this was to much of a sound field for such a small room. Also people at other sites are pushing me towards the paradigm ref studio 100's with cc570 center channel and their surround speakers. They say the sound field with the v3 100 is milder and easier to control( fast sound field inflation). Anyone who has had or heard both used domestically care to comment on this?. Also right now I'm using a Dennon 4802-R 125 w @ 8 ohms all around.Do you think this receiver has enough power to drive the Klipsch speakers without sounding thin? Also I've read here that the Rotel 1095 sounds amazing with the klipsch. Could I use this amp as a main with the Dennon as a pre without losing any of formats that the Dennon supports(every possible format). Or should I use the Rotel just to power the fronts for pure music listening and the Dennon for H.T. only ? Sorry to put all these questions in one post but if they're going to get answered correctly it's here and not on some other board with less knowledgable people. Any consideration on any of these if not all of these questions will be greatly appreciated. Anyway stepping out to demo the v3 1oo's and the Rotel amp. A major thanks in advance and once again sorry about the long post. Thanks RickZler
