  1. Interesting list!

Unfortunately, my internet time is limited, so I'll make the most of it!!!

I've always had a "Top xxx" list in my head. The list posted sort of mirrors what has already been said. But my brain works a little different.

    IMHO...

As a musically inclined metalhead product of two classically trained hippies my tops in each decade are:

60s: Sgt Pepper's... Cant disagree there. Love the Petsounds, but SPLHCB was off the map.

70s: DSOTM... can't tell you how many times I listened to this with my ma. Top notch everything -- songwriting, lyrics, recording, concept, etc.

80s: Beastie Boys -- Paul's Botique... And here is where the differeces start. There was more music references/samples than you could shake a stick at. Nothing had ever been done like this before, and nothing will ever be done like this ever again. Thanks to lawyers.

90s: Pantera -- Vulgar Display of Power... As a metalhead, homage must be paid to this. There was plenty of metal to go around back then, but ALL of today's metal can be traced back to this album. And I can't stand most of today's metal.

    Ok.

    Gotta go.

  2. Been wearing Revo's since 1988... until this year.

They're now owned by RayBan (I've owned plenty of those too) and the quality of the glass and frames has gone to crap.

I recommend looking for some vintage Revos in good condition on ebay.

I never, ever, EVER thought I would own Joke-leys...

but I put a pair of teh Gascans on my skull and the fit me perfectly. I'm not too happy about the grey lense (I like the orangey looking one) but I was in a pinch.

  3. Was in a circus for 6 years. Walked the high wire, caught the trapeze, rode the unicycle, and juggled (and a ton of other stuff that noone would recognize) -- Sometimes a combination of all of the above. Travelled to Lima, Peru for a month to perform daily down there. Was on Peruvian National Television one evening with an estimated audience of 10 million (there were at least 50k people in the stadium that night).

  5. I know I made an offer years ago to part with single records on this forum, but it became logistically impossible for me to do. Oh well... what can I say. Drastic circumstances call for drastic measures, though! The wifey and I are splitting, the house is going to get sold, and I abolutely refuse to tote this record collection around with me one more time in my life. This will be a local pick-up (south of B'ham, 35040 zip) or maybe I can meet someone halfway within reason (a couple hour drive?). I'm not really in this to make money (but certaily wouldn't hurt!) which is why I'd rather not fool with ebay -- I'm just looking to give them a good home most of all. Which is why the offer is on the Klipsch forum esp. 2channel. Best offer takes about 200 pieces of vinyl -- while not are all perfect, most are in good condition, some duplicates, etc. This is what I've kept after paring the colletion down about a dozen times over two dozen years. I'll post the list next.

  6. The official company motto is immodest: A

Legend in Sound. The unofficial one, directed at competing

manufacturers who make what Paul KIM considers outlandish claims, is

blunt: Bullshit. The word is printed on plastic yellow lapel buttons

that KIM hands out at trade shows. In addition to the kim and Heresy,

the kim Rebel, Shorthorn, Cornwall , La Scala, and Belle kim are among

the most well known loudspeakers developed by Paul W. KIM. Many of

these models, which are regarded as some of the world's finest, are

still manufactured and sold around the world today.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, My guess is that this is not real.

If so, then I'd like to get my hands on some of them hi-fidelity karaoke speakers.

  7. Off the top of my head I can't remember a whole lot of the good stuff. Honestly, I've not listened to much of my CD collection after I got my speakers. Since I'm always trying to find new and exciting music, I've been focused on SACD, DVD, or Sirius Radio while the rest of my collection sits in a corner and rots. I like electronica style stuff (Kruder&Dorfmeister), but the nature of that music lends itself to sounding good anyways. I can say that most of the stuff recorded in the 80's is completely flawed. The mighty 7s are not very forgiving when it comes to fidelity.

  8. Duke.

    Parallel Universes, I'm tellin ya.

Prozac then Wellbutrin followed by Celexa and onto Cymbalta, etc., etc.

combined with Xanax, Ritalin, and other 'smokeables'

And at that point she didn't even care to watch TV.

And its a dang purdy TV too!!

Best I can tell... the differnce between me an you is you gots more gear!

  9. I dunno, the study does not seem to be referring to ionizing radiation (like X-rays).

Sound waves are not ionizing. Neither are sound waves part of the electromagnetic spectrum. They are mechanical energy.

The study seems to suggest that chronic exposure to high SPL's (a mechanically induced trauma to the vestibulo-cochlear apparatus) increases the incidence of an acoustic neuroma, or acoustic "schwannoma."

The study may or may not be valid. But a benign neural outgrowth in response to long term mechanical abuse is not an unreasonable hypothesis.

I know the article is not referring to ionizing radiation -- but I am!

And I still stand by what I've been taught -- that energy, specifically anything under 33 electron volts, mechanical, eletromagnetic, or otherwise (and Heay Metal falls in that category), doesn't increase risk for cancer.

You say not an unreasonable hypothesis, I say its a bit of a stretch.

Not to say that I can't be convinced otherwise, but this study didn't do it.

I'll ask my Phd friend who runs a lab to park some Klipsch over his research rats and see if there is any differences in rate of incidences of tumors between Celine Dion and say, perhaps, Slayer.

  10. subliminal message, gotta be in the broadcast ....

    ABC/ESPN conspiracy?!

    Sheesh Duke.

What did we do to deserve this?

And for the rest of you I want to see some more "toungue twisters"

That'll at least make me laugh. I don't seem to do much of that anymore.

  11. What size room? In a 10x10 it will blow you out of the room. In a 20x20 just about right. Anything larger and you may want to up the power. The HK635 is a 75wpc unit and being a HK that rating will be on the low side. In most normal instances it should be fine. Laters, Jeff

Agreed here too. My listening area is 4000ft^3 so I'm need'n a little extra juice than most.

But, let me clarify about cranking HT. What I was referring to is getting good dynamic range -- voices are all to sound normal but explosions, crashes, and the like are to sound just like that. While I never listen anywhere close to 'reference level' during movies, certain scenes (Matrix2,3, LOTR, etc) would make the receiver clip as it was trying to drive the RF7s in the low bass spectrum.

Not a problem anymore with a sub.

  12. unless Nuc, really needs a Woman .. who hasn't worked in 16 years....Trade ...??? ...Buddy ...

Wouldn't be much of a trade I'm afraid. Mine has been a succubus for 12 years. Can't cook, won't clean. I think I married Peggy Bundy from "Married With Children"

But I was able to answer the "are you satisfied with your system" thread honestly -- so I have that going for me.

Yeah, she hit me with the news as the Seahawks quit playing good football.

    A double whammy.

  13. I agree with Colter...

For music you shouldn't have a problem and it really depends on your listening habits for HT.

If you like to crank it for HT use, and you do not have a sub, then my bets are that you will clip the reciever. The dynamics of movies which extend very low, coupled with the low impedence in the bass region, makes for some very nasty popping noises. Especially if you are trying to drive 4 of the suckers.

I could be wrong about your particular reciever, but I've been there and done that with very similar gear.

  14. And to continue my unPC streak this week:

What do you say to a woman with 2 black eyes... Nothing! You've already told her twice.

Forgive me evryone, I'm just a little upset since my "significant other" told me during the second quarter of the superbowl she no longer wants to be married
